toddler during a blackout

posted 28th Oct
So its no secret there's this thing going around called Hurricane Sandy, perhaps u have heard about it? Well I'm expecting (crossing my fingers it doesn't happen) to be without power for a long time, last year during Irene my entire street was without for almost a week, and myself and my work (across the street) never lost so im hoping i have a magical fuse box and i'll be fine.

but im still preparing, the only thing im not prepared for is the boredom that will not only take over me, but my 2 year old! HELP, what they hell do I do with him for hours, or days!! I can only play with him and his trucks for so long b4 i lose it, and eventually hes gonna ask to watch TV so any tips? How do you guys survive power outages with ur toddlers?

Your child can't be entertained without technology? That is ridiculous, I'm sorry. That would be the least of my concerns. I'd be more worried about having food and drinks that don't need to be refrigerated. Anyways... Color... Playdough... Paint... Simple games like break the ice....

I think it's more the electricity that's the issue. It's not easy to play in the dark. Even with candles lit. Plus, my LO is scared of the dark so that's a challenge in itself for us.

so you are saying that you can't play trucks, color, do playdough, paint or anything of the like by candlelight? Or with a flashlight?

Do you have candles? If you're going to color, just set a bunch on the table with you guys so you can see.

If you have or buy flashlights, that'll keep him busy for a while. My DD loves to play with a flashlight in the dark.

Ir you can buy one of those battery powered lanterns.
