Blanket help
posted 27th Oct
Dd is 8 months old and her bedroom is cold tonight. She's in her warm pjs but she was still waking up because she was cold. I can't change the temp because I live with my inlaws. My mil put a homemade blanket over her because it has the holes in it but its heavy so I'm not sure if I should switch it out with a receiving blanket?? Wwyd? I'm so nervous about SIDS and a few months ago a girl I went to school with lost her almost 8 month old to SIDS because he was sleeping with a blanket but I need to keep her warm. Thanks!

I don't have one yet it's been warm here and normally my inlaws keep it beyond hot but lately my mil started having hot flashes so they turned the heat off. We are buying a house and were suppose to move out 2 wks ago so we thought we had time but things keep getting pushed back.

Babies don't die of SIDS because of a blanket. They die from suffocation due to blankets.
My DD is 6 months old and I use a regular baby blanket when she's in her bed. When she's in mine we use the same ones (sheet and 2 thicker blankets). Does she have footie pajamas?? Put some socks on her and light pants and onesie under the pajamas??

Put a hat on the baby
and blankets don't cause SIDS. There is no cause of SIDS
But blankets can suffocate or overheat a baby

Oh they put on Fb it was SIDS because of the blanket I know it's POSSIBLE to suffocate on any blanket but do you think it's better than the receiving blanket? She's already in footed pjs and I think she will get to hot double layered (I'm surprised she's cold anyway because she's like her dad and is always on the warmer end)

DS uses a blanket. It's light and he can actually breath through it. He refuses to go to sleep without it. I check on him a lot while I'm awake and then I check on him every time I get up in the night to use the bathroom, get a drink etc. If you really don't want to use one though, I would take the other ladies' advice and put a onsie and socks on along with the sleeper.

I'm just nervous and over paranoid lol idk why though she has this special blankie that's small but thicker and has a big butterfly on it and in order to fall asleep she needs it covering her face and then she pulls it off as she falls asleep and by the time she's sleeping its laying next to her. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that I'm not a bad mom putting a blanket on her at 8 months

Both of my girl used blanket since they were babies. Now they refuse to not have their blankies

Unfortunately SIDS is one of those things that's going to happen or it won't.
Maybe just a onesie and socks under her footie jammies?? DD's blanket is thicker than a receiving blanket. I doubt that would help her to stay warm. I'm assuming your LO can roll so I really wouldn't worry too much about suffocation from the blanket.

You're not a bad mom lol! DS doesn't do anything without his blanky! He knows exactly what it is and throws a fit if he can't see it! If he doesn't have it for bed time he will scream all night long!

I was the same way when I first had my son..I am a huge overworrier.lol but we now cosleep and I let him have a baby blanket...he loves it, sleeps better with it but I keep it away from his face just in case. As long as you do it safely a blanket should be fine

My son is 7 months and he sleeps with a blanket. He is pretty good with his hands though and is able to move the blanket off of his face if it somehow ends up there. I would think that the blanket with holes should be ok (I'm assuming it's the crochet type?) but only do what you feel comfortable with.

my daughter wont sleep without her blanket... when she was a newborn she would actually pull the blanket over her face and thats how she went to sleep.. when we had our stays at the hospital the nurses would laugh at her cuz if she didnt have a blanket she would grab my hand and put it over her face.
