no poop in over 24hrs

posted 27th Oct
my LO hasn't pooed in over 24 hours. I'm at school most of the day time and no one has told me up until just now, that they haven't changed a poopy diaper yet.

What can I do? Should I try prune juice again? his Pedi has him drinking some with his bottle while switching formulas a few months ago.

my poor little constipated baby.

DS doesn't poop everyday. It's normal for babies not to poop everyday. He has gone 8 days without pooping. It's the consistency of the poop and how hard they strain when they do is what's really going to matter. How old is your LO?

sometimes babies can go a few days, but if he's showing signs of being uncomfortable and trying to poop but can't then I would say a little prune juice would be fine.

he's 5 months. he hasn't showed any signs of being in pain while trying to poop.. He's been acting a little off the last 3 days since he's been off his sleep schedule though so honestly I couldn't tell the difference if there was one.

My LO doesn't poo regularly. The doctor said to give him a glycerine suppository after 8days.

okay thanks ladies! I honestly thought they had to poop at least once a day! I'm still learning something new every day! lol I'll keep track of it now, it'll be 2 days in a few hours with no poop.

If when he finally does poop and it comes out like rabbit pellet that means he's constipated. If that's the case you can give his lactulose 2 times a day 5ml each time. It's a safe stool softener and you can get it at the pharmacy. Just ask the pharmacist and they will measure it out for you. It's super cheap too.

Nope, adults don't always poop every day, kids and babies don't either. I remember the first time DS went a day without pooping and thought the same thing. But as long as he's not straining to go and it's not hard or like little rabbit poops, then he's fine. They can go days, up to a week maybe, without pooping as long as it's soft and doesn't hurt to push out.

If he does end up constipated, the best way to get him to poop is by sticking a lubed up thermometer into his tush (not far just about one centimeter). Always worked for my son. If that doesn't work then you can try other remedies. My dad's a pedi and always recommends the thermometer first before anything else.

Yea after 6 or 7 days just call your pedi. He/she can tell you what's best. Especially if you're a first time mom. I know it will calm your nerves.

My pedi told me to do the therometer in butt said it relaxes the muscles and they normally go within 30 mins of doing that. Sometimes i put aquaphor on his butt and kinda massage while putting it on that helps my guy go cause im switching from breast milk to formula and sometimes he struggles! good luck!!

My kid is 2 1/2 and still doesn't poop everyday. As an infant, it wasn't abnormal for him to nearly go a week without doing so. I wouldn't freak out.
