Cloth Diapering?

posted 26th Oct
I have been considering using cloth diapering after seeing a newsstory on some news show. LOVE the idea of not having to buy those disposable diapers every so often and that smell... I told my mom about them and she flat out said NO, Pee and poop leaks from them, they stain really bad, and you have to do laundry everyday, therefore raising your electric and water bill. She's also ONLY used disposables, and nearly went broke because of those diapers. Anyway. Curious to see anyone else's views, opinions... etc..

I don't cloth diaper, but I have actually heard the opposite about leaks, I have a friend who says her daughter never leaks, and depending on how many diapers you had, I don't think you would have to wash every day...

If washed correctly they actually hold more than a normal diaper - but if you change the baby when you should, it shouldn't leak anyway.

If you stock up, you don't have to do more laundry. And even if you did wash every day, it's a small load and the cost of your electric/water is way less than buying a pack of diapers.

I did cloth diapering for a while and it was great. I loved it, I just didn't have the money to buy all the extra diapers and special detergent, ect. But in the end, it's way cheaper. I just got a late start and didn't keep up with it.

I'm using cloth diapers for this baby,we spent a fortune on diapers with my first son so i have no desire to spend that much again. I'm really excited about using cloth thus time. A little nervous but I'm sure ill fall into a routine quickly. And only having one car id rather do a load of laundry than have to find a way to the store to buy diapers and give someone gas money to take me. Good luck with your decision

When i used cloth i would wash every 2-4 days depending on how many diapers DD used. It really depends on how many diapers you have in your stash. DD leaked maybe 1-3 times if that. I do laundry every few days anyways so it never raised any bills. I always rinsed the diapers before storing them in a pail, which never left stains or much of an odor. I think they are worth the up front cost. I am actually looking into getting some for our youngest DD because disposables are expensive and i loved cloth!

Yes, but it's a little amount and you can find cheap ones. I believe there's a cloth diapering thread that explains everything.

Im going to use all free and clear but there are a ton of different kinds you can use some expensive some not. Ill still be using what i normally use for my regular laundry so the all should last me a while and you use a very small amount i believe per load

I used one called Planet, bought it online. But i also used regular Tide. I have head many times to never use a baby detergent such as Dreft or any free and clear detergents. But i could be completely wrong.

I'm probably going to go for cloth diapering. The only problem is getting SO to shell out the money. He's a cheap ass.

Get 'em little by little!
Just do like one a week.
It's easier to get a variety that way.
You don't want to stock up on only one brand, since not all diapers work well for all babies.
Best to get a bunch of different ones and find out which works best for you and baby.

Cloth diapers have hold most of their value so you can always resell what you don't like!

This is the cloth diaper thread, lots of info in the OP-

I used cloth and they didnt stain or leak.

They only leak if you do not have them on correctly.

If you wash them properly and "sun" them, they will not stain.

If you have enough "stash" you wont have to wash every day.

If you give your mother information about it all and actually have her look up the info. instead of her talking out of her @ss. Then maybe she will change her mind.

I loved to cloth diaper. Plus this is YOUR child not hers.

I'm pretty sure when she looked into cloth diapering herself, it was in '94 when they were literal cloth diapers.
