re: Cloth Diapering?

posted 26th Oct
Your mom must have used either cheap diapers or flats.

I have never ever EVER had a blow out from cloth. I've had some tiny stains, but if you sun dry them, stains will usually come out. When I bought cheap diapers, pee did leak, but my prefolds never leaked and when I bought better quality pockets I didn't have that problem.

My mom still refuses to use cloth with DD. She always puts her in a disposable when she visits. We was every other day.

Quoting Sparkle Popcorn *15Weeks*:" I have been considering using cloth diapering after seeing a newsstory on some news show. LOVE the idea ... [snip!] ... disposables, and nearly went broke because of those diapers. Anyway. Curious to see anyone else's views, opinions... etc.. "

I use cloth. I was every other day, and I wash all of his clothes with his diapers, so it's pretty much a full load anyway. I use Mountain Green Detergent, I like it the best so far, but you can use All free and clear, which isn't bad or expensive. To get stains out, you really just put them in the sun, that's all. And I almost never have leaks. He'll doze off before I have a chance to change him sometimes, and around his legs will be a little wet, but other than that, nothing. And I've never had a blowout, like you do with disposables. I also use flushable liners, which catch poop, so there is 0 mess to clean up.

I use cloth. I wash every 2-3 days. I love it. Have run into my fair share of issues, but I still prefer it over disposables. I used disposables on my first two and cloth on my 3rd and will for the baby Im having in November too.

I had one small stain in a Bamboo diaper that sunned right out in about 2 hours on the front porch but generally I use flushable bamboo liners that catch solids so they barely leave a mark.

I wash every 2-3 days with All Free & Clear. I double rinse beforehand just to get the yuckies out, then throw in my regular laundry, wash on hot and do a few rinses afterwards. Then toss them on low or medium heat in the dryer. So far we've had no issues with leaking or repelling and everything comes out clean!!

I use pockets with liners and absolutely love them. So far I have a little of a few different brands- Alvas, Sunbaby's, Kawaii's, JC Trade, Lily's, and have Glowbugs on the way. They are all a little different but I haven't found any yet that I DON'T like. Between cloth diapering and cloth wipes it's already proven to be a much better financial decision and my daughter's skin is much clearer!!

My mother was so against it because she cloth diapered my sister. Once she seen how it was now, she changed her mind.

We've used both cloth and disposables and cloth are my favorite by far.

My son is 20 months old, we have 20 some-odd diapers, and we wash twice a week. We've never experienced any urine leaks, and the only blow out I have ever had involved (tmi) a huge amount of liquidy poop after he hadn't gone in a day or two. It has never happened outside of that one time.

I had mild staining in the beginning before I had a diaper sprayer, and before I learned that even without the sprayer, hot washing a diaper with residual poo staining will only seal in the stain. So I always pre-spray my diapers, and when I don't, I do a cold short wash to release all of the built up urine and poop. This also helps to keep ammonia build up at bay. I use Rockin Green detergent and I can tell it's going to last a while. You only use 1-2 tablespoons. I've had the same bag since July/August and it's only halfway empty.

We keep all of the soiled diapers in an open air dry pail and it never stinks unless I go a day or two longer without washing. Probably because we pre-spray the diapers.

If we had a washer and dryer in our apt I would have cloth diapered. We use disposable and my son has some pretty intense poops and he has a blow out like once a week so it's not like disposable diapers always keep everything in. Maybe show your mom information about it because at first I thought it was nasty and seemed like pain but once I researched it my option was totally changed. All and all its your baby do what you want
