used breast pump

Any of you buy a used breast pump? Like from ebay or something. I have tons of bottles and realized there use less if I have no breast pump. So I was wondering if anyone bought/used a used breast pump? I am wondering is it gross or its no big deal really? I am sort of a germ a phobe but these breast pumps are super expensive and I totally didn't think about buying one until today  

If anything you can buy the machine itself and buy new tubes and cones (depending on what type you get.)

I let a friend borrow mine, you can buy new pieces and parts if you are worried about germs but I had a microwave sanitizing bag that came with it and she just used that.

I got a used one. It was a family members (sisters) Its kinda gross, but if you sanitize it right you wont feel so gross.

If I bought a used one I would just buy new cones

Good idea, didn't think about buying the machine and then buying new cones things. I think that is what I will do.

If you're going to get a used one then I'd probably just use the motor and then replace the tubing and cone parts.

Another question, did you guys buy the same brand pump as the bottles you have/ were going to use ? Or it doesn't matter?

my sister bought a used one and I am using it now. It is the medela one that is a backpack, I can't remember what it was called. I just bought my own cups and memberanes or whatever those things are LOL.

I got mine from my aunt - she just gave me the 'main' pump part - i bought new cones & valves tubes etc. Mine is a medella pump and in total all the new parts i had to get cost me about 50 bucks!

Probably doesnt matter.

I had a medela (the best pump ever!!!) and i could probably attach a standard bottle to it and pump straight into it.

You can't fully sanitize and disinfect a breast pump bought from the store. The diaphragm can't be removed and sterilized in many models, and breastmilk comes in contact with it. They say buying new tubing will make it all okay, but I wouldn't personally take that chance. I would much rather throw down the money for a new one than to risk my baby getting an infection from an unsterilized machine. Especially if it came from someone I don't personally know. To each their own. Your insurance might cover all or part of the cost for a breast pump. It's worth calling to find out

I would of never though to buy a used machine or whatever its called and then just buy the new parts. I just saw a pump itself just the machine or whatever its called on ebay for cheap guess I will purchase that. Then buy the other things new, that would work perfect. I felt a little weird about using a used pump certain things I am weird with.

Well I have medicaid, moneys tight but I could scrounge up to buy the pump Its just that would take all the money I have left until I get a job down the road. A pump just never crossed my mind until now.

I have a brand new pump that I never ended up using...I couldn't return it though because I opened the box (I thought I was going to use it). It's an Avent twin electric pump or whatever its called. It was $219.00. I'd sell it to you for $100.

I've been meaning to put it on Craigslist or something but haven't gotten around to it.
