Movies playing at Walmart/Sams Club

posted 26th Oct
This morning I was scrolling down my FB newsfeed, looking to see what was new and came across this:
"I was shopping at Samsclub last night and the media area was showing "Hunger Games." I asked the manager why such a violent movie was being shown as I shop there with my children all of the time. He said corporate policy is that the movies can be PG-13 or lower. I explained that my children are 10 and under. Should I not bring them to store? He didn't have an answer for that one. He said to contact Walmart. I emailed Walmart (from their website). Not happy about exposing the kids to movies like that."

I suppose my question is - agree or disagree? I don't always like what I've seen on the tvs (although, generally it is cartoons), but I've always just used it as a learning experience (sch as, "You're right, K. It isn't very nice to hit people when you're angry.")

What do you think? D&D.

I agree that it's probably not a smart choice on Walmart's part, but I wouldn't be offended by it. But I don't spend enough time in that department for my child to be watching it, I guess

I go to Sams all the time and the TVs are always right in the front. We walk right past them since there isn't anything that we need near the TVs. So with that said, I don't see the big deal. I also haven't seen The Hunger Games.

I find it so funny when people complain about stupid stuff like that. Maybe you should be shopping instead of standing in the electronics department watching tv.

At our Sam's club the TV are the first things we see when you go in & I don't buy a TV from there so I don't pay attention to it.

I don't look at the TV's, I just walk past. But I do think that movie is a tad violent for showing in a grocery store where there are more than just 13 + walking around. The Walmarts here play cartoon movies or the sports channel.

The Hunger Games was pretty watered down.

I'm another who just walks past the t.v section while in these stores.
Regardless, it probably wouldn't have bothered me.

This.

A) As someone else said, the Hunger Games wasn't THAT bad.

B) This is so reminding me of when that group of parents threw a hissy because Victoria's Secret has pictures of women in bras outside of their stores.   That was equally stupid.

My issues with the Hunger Games was that it was kids killing kids and I don't think it was appropriate for kids to see, but that's just ME, ya know? I'm not the type of parent who censors everything, either. I love the Hunger Games. Thought it was a good movie. But not for my soon-to-be 3 year old or 8 year old.
I wouldn't make a huge stink about it at the store. I normally don't even go past that section. If people want to censor their kids, they need to shelter them too then and not bring them to the store.

I think people just like to complain sometimes. Kids are often exposed to things we arent ready for them to see yet, the news is a great example. I use it as a learning experience.

I wonder if she lets her kids watch Transformers or any of the Super hero movies that have been coming out recently? Arent they a little violent?

I think she needs to do less watching TV and more shopping. Who the hell stays in that section for an extended period of time with kids anyway?
She needs a hobby if this is her biggest concern at the moment.
