Breastfeeding Questions....
posted 26th Oct
So... I tried to BF my now 3 year old when he was born. It didnt work well. I didnt get any help from the hospital and i knew of no one who had BF before... So it only lasted 3 weeks.
My son i just had on Tuesday is being BF. I got help from the nurses and learned more than i did the 1st time but i still have some questions...
1. I remember how painful it was to BF before... As soon as my son got on it would be horrible pain in the nipple area. Was that a bad latch or does that happen when u BF anyways?
I dont have that pain now. The only pain i have when BF is the uterus contracting. (I just had baby #6)
2. How long does it take before my body and baby will sync up? Im leaking like crazy! Im using the pads but its overflow!
3. Should i use a lotion or cream on my nipples even if they dont hurt?
4. Whats the rule of BF if i were to have an adult drink??
Sorry i have so many questions... I wanna keep BF so as much info as i have the better . Thanks in Advance!

If the pain goes away after a minute or two, its not a bad latch just normal bfing pain. Don't use lotions or creams except for lanolin cream on your nipples it can throw baby off. I don't know about how long it takes for body and baby to sync up. I was rile drink after you nurse, and wait an hour per drink until you nurse again.

Thank you . I guess he has a good latch cause i dont feel any pain at all. Ill get some of that cream... Ive heard it works wonders! And with me leaking i dont want them to get dry and cracked and start hurting. I remember that pain from before and its miserable!

Oh yeah, the cream works wonders! But if you notice you still get a little cracked and chapped, express some milk and rub it on your nipples and let it dry. It's like there's healing powers or something in your milk lol.

Normal bf pain will last a second, then go away. If the latch is bad it will continue to hurt.
It should take a few weeks to regulate supply, but you may continue to leak. I leaked the entire 16 months I nursed my daughter.
I personally don't use creams if they're not needed.
The general rule with drinking is if you're ok to drive, you're ok to breast feed

With my first she had a bad latch and my nipples bled and I cried for the first two weeks whenever I had to feed her. With my second she had a good latch and my nipples didn't bleed but they hurt like hell for a few weeks.
DD is 5 months old and I believe I was able to stop wearing breast pads at around 3.5-4 months. They don't leak anymore unless I have let down.
I would keep nipple cream around just in case and you can use lanolin and nurse while it's on your nipples.
The rule I heard about drinking is if you are sober enough to drive (legal limit) you are sober enough to breastfeed. Also, you don't have to pump and dump, just wait until you are drunk (if that was the plan) and then I believe the alchohol is out of your bm just like it is out of your blood. Although you might want to pump for relief.
Good luck momma Breastfeeding can really suck at first, but once you get over that hump it is the most rewarding and wonderful thing ever

Sounds like your last baby had a bad latch
Congrats! Everything sounds like its going well.
Use lanolin cream if they even start to hurt a little bit.
Your body should even out within the first lik 6 weeks I think? I was waking up in puddles of milk all the time in the beginning lol
You can have one drink per hour. If you feel buzzed then your baby will feel buzzed so wait a little longer to breastfeed. Pumping and dumping is pointless because alcohol leaves your breastmilk just like it leaves your bloodstream.
Let's say you were to get drunk. All that alcohol doesn't sit in your breastmilk through to the next day, it slowly leaves so the same milk frm last night is now alcohol free

Lanolin didnt help me at all
Breast milk works great for sore/cracked nips too!
