Adipex

posted 24th Oct
If you took Adipex, did you have good results after using it? Any bad side effects? Also, how much was your prescription? TIA!

i just recently started taking this, my doctor recommended and perscribed it about 6 or 7 weeks ago, she wrote it so they could give generic when available, and that has been $17 per 30 days from the pharmacy. at first i was super duper hyped up on energy to the point i was up early and late... and also seriously dry mouth no matter how much i drank. plus i'm guessing since my mouth was so dry i had this bland taste in my mouth that no matter what i did or ate it never left... that being said, after about 5days or so it all mellowed out. i only have a little heart flutter/speed up if i get super active and bending and lifting alot of stuff and super angry all at the same time.... i am 5'3" and started at 172lbs, my doctor said that is just past overweight into the obesity category, and just to barely get into average but below overweight i have to get under 140lbs. at 6 to 7weeks in i'm now 151 lbs. i wish i had done before pictures so i have a comparison, but i'm a dodo brain, and honestly didn't have much faith in it...

I haven't because I'm afraid of the side effects and that I'll just put the weight back on so I'm doing it the old fashioned way.

But I do have a friend who has lost 98 pounds since April.

I used it and lost 20 pounds. The most annoying side effect was the first week or so I was taking it I felt jittery. I think my prescription was $23.

the adipex is supposed to be an assitance in losing weight, because it supresses the appetite, and the reason for the slightly increased heartrate is probably due to it helps your metabolism, amongst other things... but honestly for most people i think the side effects are barely noticeable after your body adjusts to the meds within the first week.

as far as gaining the weight back, again its just supposed to assist, so if you already have the mind set to change your diet and exercise it would be awesome to reach the goal faster with slightly less effort if possible... plus some people mistakenly just abruptly stop taking it and therefore gain it back suddenly, you are supposed to gradually fade out from using it. this is my first time using it, but so far it is great for me. but alas everyone is definitely different.

i work 40hrs a week have 2 little ones, and a husband who is visually impaired and physically disabled as of 2 years ago, so i have no extra time to work out... let alone the idea of "me time" to be able to try that... no sort of food plan can be made on a consistent basis, because my shifts are allover the place... so my doctor actually came foward to me with this idea of adipex..

How did you ladies get it?

If I get desperate (getting to that point as it's taking forever to lose...I'm down 30-33) pounds since April but it's ugh...

I talked to my doc about it but he just said I needed to stop eating so much (which the dietitian told me I wasn't eating enough) and exercise (which I do).

Totally understand.
I go to school full-time and take care of 5 kiddos. I usually have to wait until 10 at night to make it to the gym. It's really hard. I do try to do a lot to stay active like taking the stairs at school, etc. But it's just so hard to fit anything in.

And I've been a vegetarian for 5 months and eat really well. I think I have that part down

i went in for my regular 1 year checkup with my family doctor, she told me i needed to lose weight, i have weight hanging on me still from my first daughter. i was around 120something pounds before my 1st daughter, was at 190 by the end, and never lost it all. always got stuck around 165 to 170 or so. with my second the weight lost stopped at the same again. then this year (1 year after baby #2) in February i started dieting and trying to lose weight, at my 1 year checkup this september when she mentioned losing weight, i told her i tried, but then i stalled out at 150, and no matter what i did to try and increase the weight loss it stayed the same, then with stress of not losing and trying so hard on top of my crazy daily life, i ended up eating back as before dieting, because eating just felt good.. she said "so you eat when your stressed even though you aren't hungry?" i said yes...she said, well seeing that youve tried to lose weight and it hasn't changed and you can't stop the want to eat, lets try adipex....

yea thats pretty much how the convo went.. i had no clue what adipex was though prior to that day. but i'm glad i found out. i have since had a 1month check up, and now don't go back for 3 months, but she has approved for me to continue taking it each month till then, but because it is a controlled med, they have to re-write a new perscription each month for the pharmacy, it can't be written with refills, or atleast here in NC it can't

See, I just skip meals because I rarely ever feel hungry. Maybe I need something that does the opposite? Idk
The dietitian said that I was starving myself so my body was holding on to everything.

Thanks for replying! I'm considering taking it whenever I quit BFing. I would like to lose around 40-50lbs.

98lbs! Wow that's a lot! Do you know if they have been taking adipex the whole time?

my doctor told me to do about 1200 - 1400 calories, the biggest thing was to reduce sugars and carbs... my weaknesses! arg!

that could be why the doctor hasn't agreed to perscribe the adipex, because if you already don't have an appetite really, you don't want to take a drug thats going to lower your appetite... i'm talking that when i do it.. lets say i used to just eat soo much, and now i'm like "ooooh i'm stuffed" if i have a coffee and eggs in a wrap/burrito and we're talking a small burrito... or if i'm in a rush at lunch time, i get a tuna lunch kit with crackers and a banana, and i've had to switch it up to eat my fruit first, because if not one or the other only gets half eaten... so i can't eat much at one time, so i basically nibble on food thruought the day.... i guess i finally eat the recommended 5 times a day. i feel like a nibbling snacking mouse.. but i'm finally not eating myself into misery just because "it tastes good"... i've actually found that the super greasy stuff that would have seemed to taste good before, now i'm disgusted by... i don't know if that's the adipex or just the idea i know i've made progress and don't want to look back... i've been this way for over 5 years now, i'm so done with this weight!

i hear that alot of doctors are strict about allowing it, so hearing that now i'm so suprised my doctor perscribed it, because she is normally seriously for anything to fix you that involves the least amount of meds possible... but i'm glad she told me about this stuff. i went from 172 to 157 in my first month, and like i said now at 151 and about 6 or 7 weeks in, and she says i can take for 3 more months... so i'm really excited! i haven't seen 140's in YEARS! let alone the possibility of 130's!!! good luck on your journey of the weight loss! if you ever have any more questions on it, ya'll feel free to msg me. i'll answer whatever i know, or even be support ;)

Yeah, she has. She eats well and only drinks water and goes to the gym often too.
