Not finding out the sex of your baby.

posted 24th Oct
I'm really considering on not finding out the sex of my baby, I'm already 23 weeks and I would love the surprise after labor. Im still on the fence about it though. I would love to hear some stories of why you did/didnt find out the sex! I did with my first and yeah it was nice buying girl things in advance and all the benefits of knowing the sex but it seems like it would be a bigger surprise waiting.

My SIL didn't find out, and it was so exciting the day she went into labor! I bought her things from both sexes and just left the tags on so we could return whatever she didn't need.

Yeah? I know my mother is not going to be pleased when I tell her if thats what we decide but it seems like such a big surprise and I heard it helps motive you to push. Not sure how true that is though

My reasons are VERY specific to my situation---

I don't ever want to say baby "was" a ____

I almost had to with my 2nd because we found out gender but weren't telling anyone until my shower (which was to be in November). I wound up going into sudden labor at 23 weeks and delivering him extremely prematurely.

I was SO glad I knew, could bond, could name him, and could have that time...and while I was waiting in the hospital HOPING we could stop my labor and I was put on hospital bed rest for 2 days I could announce his gender and name to our family BEFORE he was born so everyone could know and celebrate his name and gender and pray for him specifically. He was born the next day, but that one day of being able to celebrate who he was before losing him meant so much to me.

My BIL/SIL don't understand why we want to find out---they didn't with their first and won't with their second.

They haven't walked in my shoes.

I wish I had the patience to wait but everything is so genderized thats it really hard to buy stuff gender neutral. Its either super boyish or super girly.

We have one of each and found out both times so we decided to let #3 be a surprise!!!! It's so exciting, some of the family wasn't to thrilled at first when we told them but their coming around. It has added to the excitement and anticipation of my pregnancy and I know it will to the labor and delivery!!!!

The first time I needed to know.

The second time I didn't want to but my husband did, so we decided to find out and not tell anyone. By the end of our pregnancy, only our Mums knew.

If we have a third, I am NOT finding out and I don't care what my husband has to say lol. He's got his way 2 times, now it's my turn.

We're not finding out. I just wanted that surprise moment where the doctor announces "It's a ______!" and then we get to announce the birth, sex, and name to the world. I've heard what someone else mentioned about it bring a motivation through labor. I hope that's true!

i had a boy then girl and decided to leave my 3rd a surprize. Personally, I didn't like it as much as knowing and have found out what every other one was after that. I am glad I did try leaving one a surprize, however, otherwise I would have never had that experience. It also made me never question finding out what the next ones were...I knew I wanted to know.

what i didn't like was that I didn't feel quite as bonded with my pregnancy ... not like there was no bond but just being able to call baby by name beforehand etc made it feel more real or something.

In my experience there wasn't that "ITS A ....." moment that happens like the movies. They didn't announce it like that at all. I had the baby and they were messing around with him a bit and everyone in the room could see what he was but me....I had no idea. I had to ask "what did I have". I hated that. I felt like I should have know immediately.

With my son, we didn't find out. We went in for my ultrasound and they accidently took a picture of between his legs, but they didn't annouce if he was a boy or girl. My MIL is a nurse and she said it really looked like a boy, so we had an idea, but really not a solid one. We got everything gender neutral, and it was amazing to hear "it's a boy!".
I just found out today that I'm pregnant again with #2, and we wont be finding out the sex of this one either. First off, where I live, they can't tell you the sex, you have to drive about 4 hours away to hear the news, and second off, I love the anticipation!
