I was always able to tell by feeling around on my belly. Once I hit about 28 weeks, I'm able to distinguish a head from a butt just by pushing around a bit.

If your baby gets the hiccups then that is a good way to tell. I play guess that body part all the time! I have no idea what I'm feeling;)

Push around firmly until you feel a hard area. It'll almost feel like a hard lump and it's about a few inches in length. You've probably now discovered the back. Push along the length of baby's back until you either feel another lump or drop off into squishy tummy. Where you feel that second lump is where baby's head is.

It's not 100%. Baby can get into positions where you only feel their back, nothing in particular etc. It's a process of trial and error. I noticed with my second that next to where her butt would be, I'd usually find a foot pressing against the uterus. Sometimes both feet. After getting acquainted with what was what, I eventually figured out foot from fist too.

It takes time, really. I have this mild obsession with interacting with my babies by poking them and shining flashlights on my belly, lol. Interactive fetus, anyone?

Your doctor can tell by feeling, they feel low in you're abdomen with one hand and push back and forth a little and they can tell by the mass and shape if the Babys head.

You can probably get a good idea that your baby is head down if you get the majority of big kicks up high and in your ribs, and more of the rolling, type movements very low, think baby hands up by their face.

yea, i feel most of the hard kicks up high near my ribs.... for a week or so a couple months ago I felt all the big kicks in my cervix and my bladder so I was pretty convinced that he was breach at that point, but he moved out of that position and has been booting my ribs alot lately. I actually was talking to Joanna and she said that she had an ultrasound a few days ago and has been feeling the same kicks and movements as I have been but on the left side and come to find out her baby is head down with his bum in her left rib cage so I am pretty convinced that Kyle is head down!

i'm usually able to tell my baby's position when he's moving around. when he's closer to the surface of your stomach, feel for 2 hard bumps as said above. wherever you feel kicking, his feet are clearly there, and the other bump would be his head i'm assuming.

my baby is lying across my belly @ 29 weeks lol.
