pill to start period?
posted 24th Oct
My boyfriends cousin is 16 years old and me and her went to the dr yesterday because she thought she may have been pregnant....so i went with her to the dr because she has taken 3 home preg. test's....all were negative but she is 9 days late today......by her dr's calculations she would be about 6 weeks pregnant IF she was pregnant but he said her urine test came back negative and said that if she hasnt started her period in 10 more days then to come back and he will give her a pill to start her period.....i have never heard of that pill before.....do any of you know what pill he may be talking about? she is afraid that it is an abortion pill....idk what kind of pill it could be. I honestly feel like he should do a blood test or at most an ultrasound to MAKE SURE she isnt pregnant...one of my other friends when she was pregnant she didnt get a positive urine test til she was almost 4 months pregnant....and she went to the dr and they did a blood test on her and was shocked that she didnt have a positive urine test but she was in fact pregnant. she is worried that she is pregnant but her dr insist that she isnt.....so my question is do any ladies know what this pill may be and have any of you ever had this happen to you?

Birth control pill.
She probably has PCOS. I was diagnosed with it around 15/16 as well.

I was 4wks pregnant when I took all those tests.

Why didn't they do a blood test?

The pill is Provera.. It's a progesterone pill; you take it for 5-10 days. Stopping the pill will bring on a period. The period usually starts 3-10 days after your last Provera pill. I've taken Provera many times because; I didn't get my periods on my own for years due to PCOS. I've taken Provera over 20 times..
I'd get a blood test before starting Provera.

I have NO idea why they wouldnt do a blood test, he said he feels no need to do a blood test....I think he should. He just kinda made her feel like maybe he was just gonna do what he could to make her start her period because she is 16.....

My guess is that's it's common for teenagers to have irregular periods than that many false negatives. Is she having unprotected sex? If so, I suggest getting her on the Pill ASAP.

she has NEVER had an irregular period before, but yes she had unprotected sex the last time she had sex......but she is talking about getting on some type of birth control even though she says that she never has unprotected sex except this last time.
