re: What would be a proper punishment?

mama don't play

personally, i'd make him write a page about why lying is wrong and why it is not tolerated. I'd also make him write a letter of apology to his teacher, then make him read the letter to the teacher. I'd tell him that if he is caught again lying, there will be a bigger punishment, and there would be.

He surely does. I could probably make some work out of the spelling words. Write sentence with the words in them and stuff.

This is a GREAT idea.

First, I would find out why his color has changed, like what was he doing to get in trouble. He obiviously knows he is going to be in trouble because he changed it. I agree with you honesty is the best, just make sure he feels comfortable to tell you the truth when he needs to. All kids do dumb stuff, I know I did.
I had my kids *depending on their ages, write apology notes for what they did. Even if it is mostly pictures, it made them sit down and think about what they need to change about their behaviour. Plus, for mine nothing was more embarrassing to them then giving the letter to the teacher so it made them think . twice next time. I think holding out on playtime is going to get the point across for sure and keeping him busy is smart. I hate when I get on to one of mine and they go attack the younger ones because they are mad at themselves.

well you know your child best. i think only you can decide the best punishment. what will really get to him, ya know?

Girl, I definitely don't play. He's been lying up a storm lately in order to get what he wants. I've totally been believing him since he's never acted this way before. I'm not a happy camper.

The letter thing is a really good idea. Now I gotta get dressed in the morning and take him to school so he can read it to her

Kids suck, man. lol

That's exactly what he does. He gets mad at me for punishing him and takes it out on his sister.

He's been getting in trouble for the longest because he won't stop talking in class. When I tell him that he has to get a blue in order to watch movies, he freaks out and acts like it's the hardest thing ever to be quiet.

We're going to get him tested for ADHD after we've tried other things. I've been trying other things before resorting to medication. Changing his diet, letting him go outside more, etc.

Dude, why didn't I think of that? If he went to bed an hour early, he would not be happy. That would definitely teach him. I think that would open his eyes even more than extra work.

Another mama just suggested going to bed an hour early. That's the one thing that would make him go "OMG, ARE YOU SERIOUS???". That would open his eyes reaaaally quick.

Go in your pj's and fuzzy slippers with rollers in your hair. I bet he'd remember the punishment a lot more. Then before leaving, kiss him on the cheek and give him his lunch in a paper bag with his name on it and lipstick smudges.

I doubt he will ever lie again

dude, I was about 6-7 when I ran away for the first time. My dad found me at the park, which was a street away but to me that was running away. For my punishement, they put me to bed at 7pm, instead of 8pm. I could still hear the kids outside playing and it wasn't dark yet. I can tell you that i never did that smurf again, that punishment was enough to break my little 6 year old heart and i behaved. You should try it
