breastmilk vs colostrum preemies and weight loss

So my 36weeks was doing so well. But now they are starting to get worried. He was 7lbs 13ozs when he was born. Today he is 7lbs 2ozs. They don't want him to get under 6lbs 15ozs and they want my breastmilk in before we leave. He has been nursing almost none stop all day and I think my milk is in but Idk for sure. How can I tell?

You will suddenly just have a heaviness in your breasts and they will get full, hard and engorged. You might get a tingly feeling in your nipples. My milk did not come in until the 4th day. Drink lots and lots of fluids.

When did you have him?

My milk Didnt come in until she was 6 days old.   I had to use a SNS because she was jaundice and needed to clear it out but my milk Didnt come in. So I used formula and my pumped colostrum together to clear it out. My daughter was born at 6lbs 9oz and dropped down to 5lbs 2oz.

I was able to stop using the SNS when she got up to 7lbs and I was able to exclusively breast feed her for 8 months. (Self weaned)

Maybe ask them to try a SNS if you're that worried. And pump as much colostrum out to only use that, instead of formula? No bottles involved. No formula. It really helped me.

th initial weight loss is totally normal, and his is in the normal range. Just keep feeding on demand: colostrum is really high in fat and protein and is more than enough for him. You can expect to see him back at his birthweight within 3 weeks, but day 14 is average. Don't let them convince you formula will be better! My milk didn't come in until day 5 and formula was never suggested.

That is why I'm trying to help get my milk in. They say he is going yo stop losing weight once it is in. Thankfully it came in on my last feeding. : D

Yay! My DD lost exactly 11oz too haha. My milk came in on Christmas Day
