Infants on planes?

posted 27th May
So, I'm planning to take a trip with my son in july to Arizona so his great grand father can see him before passes. It's only a two hour flight from Dallas to Tuscon, but is it safe for a two month olds ears? Will he get an infection after the flight because of ear popping? Is there anything else I should be worried about? He'll be on my lap the whole time. A friend of my families from our church out there is donating a car seat and stroller so I don't have to lug it through the airport. Thanks ladies, any information/tips is HELLA appreciated. =)

I don't think any problem for a 2 month old, just try to time it so you are feeding him when you depart and are going up, OR make sure he has his passy.

And I know your going to say to expensive, BUT I have to say how dangerous it is to carry a baby on your lap in a plane!! Try Try getting him his own seat and bring car seat on plane with you, just like a car!!

Ohh good question! I was wondering that too... I've got to fly home to MA from CO a couple months after I have the baby.

Yup, taking the baby on the plane is fine. My youngest flew when he was about 6 weeks old. We did get him his own seat(more for space then anything with my oldest that way he could play and move around.) Will you have anyone going with you and the baby or are you all alone for the trip? If you can take someone with you, I was alone for a trip with a 6 week old and a 21 month old.

Just feed him on take off and landing and he should be fine. But really its best to get him his own seat and bring his car seat.

Here are some good pages discussing why people should use a carseat on a plane:

My son was 2 and a half months when I first flew with him. I tried to have him sucking on something or tried to feed him at take off and landing. It didn't always work because sometimes it wasn't time for him to eat yet or he wasn't interested in the paci or he was just to tired either way he did fine throughout all our  plane rides.

Just remember that you can not take liquids or gels through the checkpoint if they are over 3.4 oz.....If you going to feed him, just make sure that is already mixed if your not breastfeeding...

This might sound stupid but I want to know do you have to buy a seperate ticket for a baby that young?

If they occupy a seat you do, if not then no.

You do if the baby has its own seat. if you hold the baby under age 2 is free. its safer to get the baby a sear. many airlines will give you a ticket for a baby under 2 for half price.

I flew to Kansas City back in February and then to North Carolina last month with Jackson. I use the playtex drop-ins bottles and I pre-fill them with water (7 oz.) and have a canister with pre-measured powder formula that I carry. I had to send his diaper bag through the x-ray, but they never bothered looking through it. I thought for sure they would at least make sure it was formula and/or water but all they were concerned about was me taking his Robeez off when I carried him through the metal detector!!   I was like "Are you serious? They are slippers!"

Yea, some of the TSA people are not that in tune with the baby factors of life. and unfortunately you cant teach them all .The worse part is that you are not allowed to carry the water through. But alot of officers let them through, just like in your case...

Not sure what kind of formula your child is on but similac has premade formula that come in 2 or 8oz bottle where you just have to put a nipple on and your set, it's Great! I think that enfamil has them too but I've only seen them once.
