Making enough money to live.

posted 23rd Oct
If you are/were a single mom, how did you possibly make enough money to live on your own? I have no education past high school, so skills, no car, nothing. I'm not getting child support and I don't want it. I really, really need to move out of my grandma's house, but I can't get a job paying more than 7.25 and that just isn't enough. Any ideas?

You probably need some type of schooling. I was an aide at a nursing home. I didn't make much. I recieved childsupport for one of my kids. It is hard. good luck.

IF I were you I would definitely get child support for now.

I think you can get certified as a CNA after some classes and you pay $200 to take the test. CNAs start out at I think at least $12 an hour. My MIL makes $18 an hour but she's been doing it a long time.

Have you thought about schooling, maybe even just to get certified in something to get a better hand at a skilled job?

I was a single Mom for almost 6 years, with no child support. I started volunteering at my local DHS agency. From there I started supervising child visitations. They actually trained me and paid for me to get the necessary schooling I needed to become an actual CPS worker.

How about waiting tables or maybe calling your local community college and getting information on classes?

I'm going to be a nurse, but it'll take a while and I can't live here that long.

It's not about you not WANTING child support its about your child who NEEDS it.

I'm in the same boat as you minus the cs part and we live with SO at his parents house.
I only have my GED and not so great work history. I've applied anywhere and everywhere that will hire with no experience and luckily tomorrow I have an interview at a great company with pay starting out at 13.60.
It's possible you just have to find a way.
Look on indeed.com and Craigslist, apply to as many places that you can.

That's not everywhere, they start you here around $8-9.

a lot of it has to do with where you live, the cost of living there, transportation, education, and the minimum wage also is not always the same. Do you receive any type of assistance? if not, you should. there's a lot of help and ressources out there, you just have to find out about it depending on where you live.

i'm a single mother to a two year old. I don't receive child support. I live off approx. 2000$ monthly.
