pissed

posted 23rd Oct
Even though Ezra is doing great they aren't going to let him leave for another 24 hours at least. I want to leave. You can't really rest or really sleep in a hospital at all. Even Ezra is pissed most of the time because he wants to sleep with me but can't while we are here. So he screams the minute I put him down even if his dad picks him up and even if he was in a dead sleep. I haven't slept in 4 days now...

In the hospital I work at, we let parents sign a waiver that we can't be held responsible for the child sleeping with the parent/if any injuries, etc are sustained- if they sign, we allow it. Maybe ask if they can do that?

I will ask about it. Even my Dh says we would be a lot happier if Ezra could just sleep with me. He falls straight to sleep when I hold him or at lest stops crying and wakes right up when you lay him in his bed and cries.

I know that for a long time we didn't do waivers- our big issue was that hospital policy was that children under 2 had to be in a crib. However our cribs are super scary and cage-like, so for a 1 year old that's never been a crib, it was like   So we pretty much just do waivers for that, and our night nurses use their discretion with parents sleeping with children- as long as there aren't 14 people in the bed, it's usually fine with them. I'm glad I'm not a night nurse anymore though

I co slept with my daughter int he hospital. Both me and dh. If the nurse didn't like she could piss off.
I hear ya on how hard it is to sleep in the hospital. And why the crap do they do all the newborn testing in the middle of the freakin night? they take your happy baby and bring you back this red screaming thing that it takes forever to calm down.

With my son they wanted to keep him another 2 or 3 days and I honestly didn't feel it was necessary. I asked the doctor point blank what needed to happen for him to go home, expressed firmly but calmly that I wanted to take my son home as soon as possible and that I wanted a list of goals that needed to be met before that could happen. We were out of there within 7 hours.

Don't ever get reckless and completly ignore your doctor's opinions but as your child's mother you also have to stand up and ask questions and demand answers. Even if you have to stay another 24 hours you are in more control of your own situation and that can help.

I was co-sleeping with my second and the midwife told me 'make sure you don't smother him'... But she never told me I couldn't do it thankfully. After having a c-section the last thing you want to do is to get up and down from that bed each time bub needs a feed
