Grounding for 5 year old

posted 22nd Oct
Is 5 years old too young to ground from TV for a day? Or is he still too young? Thanks!

No, my 4 year old threw a temper tantrum like I have never seen, so I grounded her from the TV and computer games for 2 days. She hasn't thrown one since.

Not at all. If my 4 year old give me attitude about a video game or TV it gets taken away for the day.

Definitely not. TV is a privilege not a right. Losing TV and computer is a punishment we use.

No way.
My 5 yr old loses tv time in 30 min increments.
On rough nights he loses tv for the entire next day. No Tv means no electronics at all.

I've never grounded him from anything before. And technically he won't be 5 until mid December... But close enough IMO for this question.

So is a day too long or should I start with a half a day? I was going to have DH unplug the TV before he goes to bed for the am.

Heck no!! I have been taking privledges from my girls since they were 3. As soon as they understand it is a go! Just don't take away anything that they can't ever earn back. For example, don't take away a birthday party they are supposed to go to. It doesn't send the proper message. You want them to learn from the error and correct it to earn back their privledge.
