Hmm these children are too young to have to understand these issues.

I've been told numerous times that I'm indoctrinating my children just because I take them to church each Sunday. So, I'm assuming that it works both ways.....right?

No. Bringing your children to church is including them in your family's culture and tradition.
Sticking signs in kids hands when they cannot possibly understand the complexity of the issue is indoctrination.

This is how I feel as well.

I was more-so using that as an example of how all too often it's a one sided issue, ya know? I'm an indoctrinating parent because we're avid church goers, but they are all awesome parents because they've got their 8 year old protesting for gay rights...or whatever it may be. *shrugs*

Enforcing beliefs on a child in any way is indoctrination.

I wonder how different the poll results would have been if this had been the only picture I posted.

Do you think that some indoctrination is OK and not others? Or do you think that what is okay for one person just may not be ok for another?

I disagree. I think there are many customs and traditions that are just part of a family's culture. Sometimes those things may be about their country of origin and sometimes their religion and sometimes it's just some other tradition or habit or practice that has nothing to do with either but it's part of how they define themselves as family.

Urgh, this is a tough question! Because I obviously feel that my kids should learn about my beliefs as I think they are right BUT that would be wrong. Any indoctrination is wrong and children should just be left to be children and not have to learn about adult issues.

I agree we should let kids be kids. No need in making them grow up too fast. I disagree that we shouldn't be teaching them what we feel is right. I think it is my job to point my children in the right direction. To be kind, hard working, loving, compassionate, merciful, and successful adults.

Enforcing religious beliefs on a child is indoctrination. Tradition is a separate issue e.g. Christmas - I celebrate it as it is a familial tradition but I choose not to include the religious connotations that come with xmas I just like to have a bit of fun and get the family together. If my child wants to carry on that tradition like me then fine but if she wants to include a religious aspect then that is up to her. Nothing about that tradition has been enforced hence no indoctrination. When you take a child to church they will be dictated upon and will be told what certain things lead to and they will be taught religion.
