Cursive Writing

posted 22nd Oct
They dont teach it anymore!

How are kids these days going to sign their names to anything when they are older???
I called my dad to discuss my son's report card. well, my brother is in 7th grade. Dad said when he was in 5th grade, he realized my brother couldnt read or write in cursive. He called the school and they told him it's not a requirement anymore. I am just shocked. How can they sign a check? How can they sign their names to a lease agreement? How can sign their names on anything if they dont know cursive?

I write and sign in cursive. It's just strange to me that these kids are going to be so technology dependant. What happens if technolgy fails? What happens if it all shuts down and shorts out?

you don't need cursive to sign.

I remember being in school and haing to learn it then being told I'd have to write in cursive for the rest of my life. neever happened lol.
i think they just don't have nearly as much time to teach everything they need to do now a day

I really can't believe it. I think there should still be handwriting classes and what not, because most people have terrible writing.

I just write a cursive J and scribble the rest. There is a method to it, but it surely isn't cursive, lol.

And I agree, it's bullsmurf. I'll still teach my son.

They teach it. When my daughter was in 2nd grade they started teaching her. In Georgia and in Michigan.

My 9 year old is being taught, quite vigorously. Luckily hes been great at picking it up but they also send a ton of step by step instruction home so we can help him.

I think it's good to learn but I literally never use it. That's pretty crazy though.. I had no idea that it's no longer a required part of curriculum .

But what happens if someone forges your signature? You cant compare print, but you can compare cursive.

I heard that from a co-worker. Her brother was in middle school or high school and didn't know anything about cursive. I think it's bullsmurf. I learned cursive in the 3rd grade. I used it so much in elementary school that my handwriting is a mix of cursive and print most of the time. If DD's school won't teach her, I will.
