Bed Time Bottles

posted 22nd Oct
My daughter just turned 2, and I'm struggling to get her to sleep thru the night. She was EBF for 19 months and i weaned her with water bottles. Now she still wakes up 3-4 times a night and its so hard. She is potty trained but needs a night diaper because she drinks so much water at night that she pees. She was always a colic baby and restless, but anyone have any tips on getting her off the bottle and sleeping through the night? Or anyone relate? My first daughter wasn't like this, she slept the entire night by the time she was 9 months or so. Im ready for this kid to let me sleep a full night! O.O

Is she waking up because she's thirsty? My 2 year old wakes up in the middle of the night because he's genuinely thirsty for water.

Let her pick a special toy doll or animal from the store to use at bedtime. Throw out the bottle together and have a big girl partu with a special cake

She wakes up saying "WATER" but I'm just not used to it and don't know why. She drinks 4 bottles of water a night. She eats really well and often, its just different for me because my other daughter slept fine through the night. She wakes up about every 2-3 hrs. Every night, its not random either

I would get rid of the bottles and give her a cup

do you mean give her a cup when she wakes up? Cuz she drinks from cups in the day time. She only asks for a bottle at night.

Bottles as in infant bottles? You should get rid of those and offer her water in cup. Every child is different so your first and your second are two different people.

My daughter weaned herself from the water sippies at night just a month ago or so! She turned 2 in May and was the same way. She goes to bed with one but does not drink it.

i will have to try that. And yes i know they are different. I bf my first for 12 months vs 19 months and gave her bottles because i worked so she was off the bottle by age 2. However since i EBF my second longer she has only had bottles for 5 months and only at night. So i wasn't sure. Her pedi said she would grow out of it when i weaned but she didn't. I didn't know if i should worry that she wakes up so much. But if other mommies have the same things happen i feel comforted with that. Ill def try just a cup of water and see if she just goes back to sleep after that.

don't cave when she freaks out. I would trash all bottles and not even have them around

Abby has a water bottle (sports top kind) that is next to her bed. I understand maybe wanting a drink some nights but if she's waking up that often it's just out of habit not because she needs it. You need to just wean her from the habit completely. and by weaning I mean just say no all together. It'll be rough a few nights but then she will get it and everyone will have a better nights sleep.
