ectopic

posted 27th May
Hi everyone, i recently posted in the suffering and loss section, i lost my son Christopher when i was 22 weeks along due to spina bifida and other defects. i lost him on 2/9/08. I am thinking about trying to get pregnant again, i am such a worry wart...i recently heard of ectopic pregnancies and now that is holding me back from wanting to have a baby. i have never had surgery, never been put to sleep or anything.I am only 21, and i am so scared something like this is going to happen. what causes it? can i avoid it?

I know one of the reasons in multiple abortions.

First of all, I am very sorry for your loss.

As far as I know, you cant really prevent an ectopic. I had one, and they said its pretty much a fluke.

The chances arent that great. You will be fine! You cant let that worry stop you from trying again!! Good luck!

?? (Am I missing something?!)

But yes, there are certain things that can increase your chances, along with abortions, there is STD's and things like that.

But there are people out there (ME) who have none of these things apply to them and still have one.

You are at higher risk for an ectopic if you have had uterine scarring or prior issues that could have caused scar tissue in the fallopian tubes. Most of the time there is nothing to predict an ectopic. They are relatively uncommon in young women such as yourself, maybe doing some research would make you feel better. I know there is a lot to worry about, especially if you have already lost a baby. If you worry about the ectopic, you might keep finding things to worry about to keep you from trying again. Try not to focus on this too much, chances are really high that you would never have an ectopic. I am sorry for your loss and I hope you are successful in trying again.

I don't think you are missing anything. Most people who have an ectopic have no history of abortion or a reason that can be pinpointed for it's cause. I think it is usually just something that happens, like what happened to you. The abortion comment was kind of insensitive.

Thats what I was thinking. I know I didnt do anything to cause it to happen and I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and assume the same is true for them. Thank you for being helpful and giving an educated answer!

that's why I said one of the reasons. I'm not too educated on the subject but wanted to help her.

Um... as far as I read she said what causes it? I in turn gave her a cause. I'm not insensitive just didn't think lying to the girl was a really good option. I wasn't emplying that SHE has had multiple abortions. Just giving her a reason...

i agree that the abortion comment was inapropriate considering i mentioned i just lost my son when i was 6 months along. anyway does anyone know of any other causes, i think maybe i am over reacting to the whole ectopic...i guess me being so young i have went through a lot so i know that ANYTHING can happen to anyone at anytime, there doesnt have to be an apparent reason. I have a pap done whenever i am supposed too the OBGYN says i am very healthy and guarantees me a healthy 5 + healthy babies. Soi should just relax right?
Nurselisa99: thank you for your kind and caring words and thoughts. i appreciate them, and your help has been great. May god bless you and your family and bring you nothing but happiness and love.

My first pregnancy was ectopic. To find out that your baby is growing in your tubes is scary. This can also be fatal if you don't catch it. If you are spotting and experience a back ache, go to the emergency room. As early as four weeks they should be able to detect if your baby is implanted in the uterus. That is a sign. Good luck!

Well, then don't ask for reasons as to why you can have an ectopic pregnancy. Ask for a nice sugar coated version. Once again, sorry for your loss.

I had an ectopic pregnancy last month and the OB/GYN I saw told me there is a 1% chance it will happen. If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about it since the risk of it happening is so low.
