Kid always smelling things

posted 21st Oct
Cora has always been a sniffer. No matter what it is, she has to smell it first.

And she "memorizes" smells.

Like my friend Scott was over here and Cora wasn't here. Before going to bed, Cora commented that my pillows smell like Scott.

She does it for everything. If she gets new clothes, she has to smell them. Toys, furnature, food (obviously).

Is smelling indicative of anything?

(She is on the wait list to be tested for asbergers)

We walk into the hallway of our building, she points out the smell
We get on the city bus, she mentions the smell
We get to the YMCA...

you get the picture.

It's making me concerned

Hmmm, I wouldn't really think anything of it. My daughter does weird stuff like that.

I think the real question here is... why do your pillows smell like your "friend" Scott? lol
My 5 yo is a sniffer... I think it's weird, but I don't worry about it. #shrugs
My sister has Aspergers and I've never seen her sniff anything, I doubt they're related, but it's such a broad spectrum so who knows.

My LO.is only 13 months, but she does that. Everything she touches she smells. I figured it was just a part of discovering her senses.

Um, not that i have ever noticed. But the only candy she'll eat is chocolate lol. And she prefers her food "raw" (like uncooked veggies and stuff)

That's a really interesting article on kids who have very sensitive habits for smell and taste etc

My daughter is autistic. She's a sniffer and licker (ew) but I don't think that behavior alone is indicative of anything. I've known many regular kids that are sniffers and lickers.

my 5 yo aspie is a sniffer (and often a licker too). He smells everything and has a super smell! last week he told me something smelled like 'daddy's computer cigarette' (the e cigarette) and i kept checking and it wasnt on and i couldnt smell anything! turns out it was my glue gun that i accidentally left plugged in... upstairs... the sniffing is a sensory thing, definitely doesnt mean anything by itself but coupled with other symptoms it may
