I just don't want him to look back on his childhood and think horribly of me.

You said give a reason. She is giving a reason.
Because I said so is a reason, too. You dont have to explain yourself to a child who is pushing buttons to get their own way.
Why cant I drink soda? Yes, I'll explain why.
Why cant I watch tv in the middle of the night? I dont need to justify it.

He wont! Kids need boundaries and limits. Not for us, for themselves. A child will feel like you didnt give a damn if you let them do whatever they wanted. With rules and limits, theyll know "ay. she cared."

He wont!! I don't look back on my parents and think they were horrible. We had our problems but the older I get the more I realize how much the way they raised me helps me today. He is programmed to love you no matter what! He needs to learn boundaries, or he'll go out into the world thinking he can do whatever he wants. IMO parents have a main duty with their children. Love them, and teach them to be proactive, functioning adults. Your only a child for so long, you're an adult a lot longer and he has to know how to survive out here.

Smurrrrrrrf, Kiki's been like that lately too. It's frickin lame.

And some nights, it's like long...."Kiki, get back to bed...Kiki....hey....you....you in the diaper....get to bed". Then it'll get to me being all "You heard me the first time". Then, everyone goes to sleep, we wake up, and she's getting into something she knows she shouldn't and then I don't even have the patience to play the "nice mom" routine. It's like "AHHHHHHH WHAT ARE YOU DOING"?!?! Then I just sit there sometimes....facepalming it out, wishing duct taping your children to bed wasn't so frowned upon...

DS: "Why do I have to get in the bath?"
Me: "Because I said so"
DS: "Said so what?"

Typing all this out makes me feel like I'm really not overreacting when I talk about how overwhelmed I am with DS.

LMAO! Im sorry for laughing. But ohhh man!
I'd put soap in that mouth, to be honest.
There is no way I could handle that back talk with a cool head. DD would be burping bubbles!!!

It's a bit more complicated with us, I think.

I adopted DS, but DD is my bio kid. He gets smurf because he acts like a little smurf, but DD doesn't get in trouble as much because she's not as big of a smurf as he is just yet. lol.

Plus, she sleeps in my bed sometimes and he'll ask why he can't. I don't want a big, sticky 6 year old boy who wakes up with boners sleeping in my bed.

I'm scared to death that he'll think there's favoritism when we finally tell him about it. Because really... they both equally drive me freakin' nuts.

Hey...I don't know if this is a smart way of going about smurf...but you could be like "Hey, go to bed" and he'd be all "Why"? And then you could be like "Or you could stay up and work on homework all night"? Like pick something you know he doesn't want to do so he'll choose bedtime every time, lol
