Look up the Bull Moose Party and that should explain most of what you need to know. It was the third party progressive movement of the day.

That was the year that the Bull Moose party finally came to an end and American's went back to a more conservative stance on politics to include Prohibition. The 1920's on the surface was a very moral and conservative time.

How long does it have to be? I could write something real quick if it doesn't have to be too long.

seriously? It's a page 1/2. so a page double spaced and a paragraph on a second page. size 12 font/double spaced. the other questions were easier and this one is just completely blowing my mind. not to mention ive been up doing these all morning since i have even more sociology homework due tomorrow as well.

were you a history major? you dont have to do this for me is thats too long. but even few sentences of an idea on how to get me started and get the ball rolling would be an amazing help! I have the hardest time starting a paper but once i get rolling I get better.

if you need the question again it's The Presidential election of 1920 was a referendum against the Progressive Era. Explain in detail why or why not this was the case. Make sure to use specific examples to support your decision.

Here are some of the ideas I'm working off of if you can come up with something:

Theodore Roosevelt dies in 1919
Prohibition
Rise of conservatism
17th, 18th, 19th amendments
Warren G Harding wins election (landslide 404 electoral votes)
WW1 ends 1920
1st commercial radio broadcasts of campaign
First time women could vote

Here's a few paragraphs to get you started.

Warren G Harding, Republican candidate for President in 1920, promised a “return to normalcy” and rejected the activism of Roosevelt and the idealism of Wilson. His opponent, Cox, promised a continuance of the ideals set forth by Wilson of the previous administration and had a Progressive running mate in Franklin Delanore Roosevelt. The American people spoke and Harding won the Presidency in a landslide with 404 electoral votes.

The era leading up to the 1920 election was wrought with progressive ideals and amendments to the Constitution, including the levying of an income tax. Books like The Jungle by Upton Sinclair showed the horrors of industry in post-Industrial America and the early 1900’s showed improved worker rights and unions.

On the other side, Conservatism was on the rise with Prohibition ideals and moral stances taking forefront in the minds of the American people and influencing the way they voted. The Presidential election of 1920 was the first time women had the right to vote and they skewed to the conservative side. The people spoke and Warren G Harding won the election with his promises to uphold the moral convictions of the American people and forgo the Progressive ideals that his opponent ran on.

so the election was a referendum against the progressive era? i know the progressives wanted change and put a lot of faith in the government to make those proper changes. but did the election help that? since harding wanted "return to normalcy?"

Yes. Referendum basically means a collective vote to accept or reject and idea. Harding got an overwhelming majority of the vote which basically meant that the people wanted to go back to conservative ideals which is what he ran on. He wanted to get back to "normalcy" before the Progressive Era which was from the late 1800's to the end of WW1.
