If you have/had Paragard!

How does/did it effect you? I cannot tolerate birth control with hormones in it. I am not comfortable with just using condoms, we are pretty sure we are DONE having children lol. We cannot afford for DH to get snipped right now, and I want to give this a try. Should I take a pain killer before my appointment? It's hard for me to find one that really kills pain for me, 800 mg Ibuprofen stopped working years ago, tylenol..nope...norco? NOPE! Maybe I will just deal, I mean I did just give birth for the third time and went through plenty of painful cervical checks and contractions. Thanks guys!

it worked for me very well until my body became allergic to the copper and i got VERY sick. had to have it taken out asap.

I had mine for 2 years, loved the smurf out of it and will be getting another.

I hated hormones so it made me feel like myself, no weight gain, no moodiness... and no risks of pregnancy,.

yeah, wrapping his smurf about 3 times. birth control failed on me with #2 because of my weight (words from the doctor, not mine) and im too afraid of making my body sick with anything else, soooo gonna have to make sure its wrapped

If you put on more than one condom you risk the condom breaking. It creates friction which makes it easier to rip.

Did it make your periods heavier and did you have painful cramps?

I'm thinking about getting Paragard after this baby because I hate hormonal BC, but what I've read on wiki has me worried.

It is not that painful to have it placed. At least it was not for me. It only felt like a good period cramp then that was it. I will say though that it seemed to make me have excessive bleeding when I did get my period.I had the paragard put in after I had my first child and worked great for four years never had any pregnancy scares just the heavy bleeding. It did not make me bleed in between periods or anything like that though. We had it removed when our daughter was around 4 years old so we could begin to try to conceive and I smurf you not I had one cycle after its removal and the following month we were pregnant. So that is a good thing to know in case you do decide in the future you want another child that it will not hinder or delay your ability to become pregnant after its removal. After my son was born I had another paragard put in and apparently at some point with in his first year of life it had come out with out my knowing and I became pregnant. The only reason we knew it had come out was because I got pregnant and my doctor told me that it should be removed during the pregnancy. Well she coudnt find it, she rolled in a portable ultrasound machine and then told me that it was right where it should be in my uterus yet she could not seem to get hold of it. So two days later I was sent to a better ultrasound imaging place to figure out exactly what was going on and they did a transvaginal ultrasound and then told me that it was NOT there. Where it went we do not know when it came out we do not know. It is advised that after every period that you actually put your fingers up there and just check for the strings as apparently it can come out during bowel movements and you not even know it. Had that not happened to me I would not have believed that it could come out unnoticed but I tell you it can. Other then the fact that mine came out it worked well while was in there. I will be getting one after this baby comes if I dont have my tubes tied and I will check for the strings after every period. Good luck hope this helps a little bit...

That sounds perfect. I get bad headaches nearly everyday while on hormonal bc and gives me cravings and terrible mood swings. I was an impatient bitch on it. I hope it works out for me to use this one.
