my son is getting a tablet too!! He asked for that and I'd much rather buy something he will use then a bunch of plastic junk he won't play with. he's in first grade and at his school they use them for learning activities and he wants me to get the apps that they have..

this shows what just how compelling the technology is
a generation ago, can you IMAGINE a 1st grader asking mom for .... textbooks for xmas?
these kids are going to learn very well, very fast
this next generation of people will take a giant leap forward
not just a little bit, like in the past
why would you stand in the way of your child?
it's not one or the other, it's not an iPad or playing outside
but it's DEFINITELY both

yea definitely. my son loves to play outside. he's in sports and cub scouts. I dont see a tablet as hindering him from being a child. Its more of an investment in his education. (when properly monitored and used)

I dont think its that bad, I know A LOT of people who buy their 5 y/o tablets/i Pad/phones. Theres educational stuff, and they even have like a leapfrog or something that like protects the iPad and you can download cool apps for them.

I do agree though cause I didn't have a cell phone till middle school. There is also a lot of 12 y/o on Facebook and twitter, all that jazz. Acting alot older then they are and its baffling

It's not the technology that's the problem; the list of grievances laid out in this thread lie solely with the abilities of these parents to foster morals and character within their children. Thankless children without correction will turn into thankless adults and that is entirely their parents fault.

If I want to spend a few hundred on a piece of technology for my kid, that's my choice to make with my hard earned paycheck. I know how to handle my kids, I know what mix of things and activities they need to succeed into productive individuals and I afford them all that I can on that front. I'll not be fine with being judged for it or lumped into a category of smurf parents but it is what it is. Boo hoo.
