Almost 38wks

I had a drs appt today and was checked for dilation/effacement...Well the dr said I wasn't dilated but she could feel that his head was in the right place? Well ever since I've noticed that he has dropped more,I've been feeling ALOT more pressure "down there",my hips have been hurting even to where it hurts to walk,and I've been having pain in my lower back that feel like mild period cramps....Sorry that I post dumb questions...but was wanting some advice. Could this be the beginning of dilation/labor? And should I be feeling more pressure after being checked?

You can't feel dilation, but your body could be preparing for labor. I had period-like cramps immediately before my water broke.
