Child Support in Georgia?? Kinda long

posted 19th Oct
The reason I'm asking and not just googling is because I can't seem to find the answer to my question on the DCSS website. So I'm hoping to find other mamas in GA who have gone through DCSS and can help me with my question.

At the beginning of the month, I was sent a paper saying that BD was to appear at DCSS on October 22, 2012, to prove employment and income and to show his tax returns so they could assess how much he would need to pay in child support. Since receiving this notice, I've spoken to BD a handful of times and he's never mentioned this hearing. I'm not required to attend, and I'm worried that he really has no idea he's been summoned for this. He even said he's due in at work at 2 on Monday and didn't say he was doing anything before then. I'm afraid to ask him about it because anytime I bring up money/child support, he goes off on me about how I'm a greedy bitch and blah blah blah. I really don't need the headache.

So for my question:

What happens if he doesn't show up? Will they still contact his employer and garnish his wages? Will they just reschedule? Will they just send him a notice that says, "We've decided for you that you owe this much money."?

TIA

Idk whenever they send me papers about hearings, that don't require me to go, I still go so I can know what's going on. Yu should bring up that you got a letter in the mail about it, and just reminding him about it

Idk about GA, but in KY they issued my son's dad a bench warrant. He spent a weekend in jail according to my son's stepmom.

I love the "greedy" argument. Child support is for the child, not the mother. My son's dad hasnt ever said that to me though. My sister has had to contact our state senator to get her child support pushed through. It was 4 yrs and no one did anything. Now TBI is involved because her BD's mom works for the Sheriff's office, he lives with her and there is a warrant for his arrest for failure to pay CS....warrant is not in the system. Ironic, huh?

Well now it's like 3 days before the hearing. I'm afraid if I "remind" him about it, he'll go ballistic that he only has 2 days to find a ride there and somehow that'll be my fault too even though he TOLD me to handle it through the courts because I "threatened" to and he doesn't respond well to threats.   What he's referring to is when I explained that my parents had to pay my bills for me because all of my money was going to our daughter, he said he wasn't going to give me money to splurge. And I said that it was obvious that I should probably get the courts involved because he wasn't going to help pay for his daughter.

But that's probably a good idea that I go down there on Monday myself just to see what's going on.

Bench warrant but if they can't find him they won't do crap!!!! Then you have dads like my husband who pay the childsupport 6 months in advance ($20,000) and we took home 600 and they dont cooperate to redice ut. the system is f*d up. we pay more in.childsupport than what we take home. I love my husband for being so responsible but I have a baby on the way and we are struggling. Hopefully they'll reduce it when we take it to court soon. but if he didnt pay it they would be after his ass...when he was the one who put himself on.child support! its all crooked and i hate to see it. my sis in law's bd is an smurf wjo never pays and they just "cant find him" sMDh!!!

I wouldnt say smurf..
It's not YOUR job to make sure he attends HIS court date.. even if its in regards to you/your child..

Sounds like he wouldn't be very happy if you brought it up and its not your job to make sure he attends.
