Buying a used swing..

Would you buy a used swing that was clean looking and what not? I just don't know, I found some swings people are selling by me and at consignment stores in good condition. They are brand new looking. I am just worried that if I didn't buy it from a store and it broke then I am just SOL. So I am sort of like going back and forth on buying a used swing or a brand new one. Grr can't make up my mind, I am trying to purchase it this week. Some lady nearby is selling a cradle papsan swing for $40 that's worth it to me but I have to buy it and pick it up before this other person buys it if I want it so its a rush rush thing.

I bought LO's swing used at a flea market. Even though it was clean I still disinfected it one more time. I think I only paid like $30 for it.

Yep, I bought a cradle swing off Craigslist for $30. It was clean and functional, and came from a smoke-free home. No way I was going to pass on over $100 in savings!

Yep u can buy replancement parts for cheap the motors are about 20

Yeah, just look it over really well and make sure it's working properly. I'm planning on selling my LO's old swing here shortly and it's in perfect condition because he barely used it. It's even stored in the original box with out the batteries.

Yeah that to me is worth it, but paying $80 and up for used and then if it breaks I wasted money is like eh no. It's just a good half a hour drive and I have to basically go buy it right now because shes said she won't hold it and a guy is coming to buy it this weekend but if I come first I can have it. Its a good deal though, there selling these same one's in consignment stores for 65 and brand new there like 140. I just would hate to buy something and it breaks. But $40 I wouldn't be so upset about if it broke. Just have to convince SO to let me go right now and get it hahaa I feel bad he wants to see the things I buy but he works so much hes not able to come.

Oh cool, okay I didn't know that. That makes me feel better   Money is tight so I was trying to be smart about purchasing things.

I definitely would. I bought mine new but then sold it used. It was in wonderful condition and I definitely would have purchased it used myself lol. If you keep your eyes on Craigslist, you can find good deals. Mine retailed for 80 or so and I sold it for 20 or 25. I just wanted it outta the house lol. so yes I think it's a good thing to buy used at the right price. Just wash the seat covering part.

Well as I am sure you know I take hand me downs & etc. I plan on getting a used swing, when I get money. Not to mention these little ones grow out of swings so fast im sure w.e. swing you get will be worth the time that it is used. Its probably lightly used bc some babies don't even like swings - or they get over them really fast. I say go for it!!

Yay SO said I can go get it, but she didn't answer maybe becuse its 9 am. I am hoping she still has it. I can't get anything that nice for 40.

oh & when I first found out when I was pregnant I went to a tag sale or a yard sale or a garage sale (depends what you call it lol) and i bought my stroller & car seat set for $120 .... it was a Quinny with the toddler seat the bassinet attachement a maxi cosi car seat with the car base & an extra liner for the car seat and a sun shade thing.... i could NOT pass up a 1000 purchase for only 120 bucks !!! I didn't care if it was used or not lol

Mine was given to me! And its used, but still in brand new condition... go for it!

Used car seats are a no go and everyone HIGHLY suggest not using used car seats.

mkay. Its a relatively new car seat she bought it last year for her final child and no longer needed it. If I still had mine from my daughter I would be using it.

Im just saying because u dont know if it was in an accident people can tell u was not but it was just saying.
Using an old or secondhand seat


That safety seat you scored at a garage sale for a fraction of its original price may seem like a bargain, but it could cost your child his life. The same goes for that older-model seat your sister gave you after her child outgrew it.

Not only are used seats unlikely to come with the manufacturer's instructions (vital for correct installation), but they could be missing important parts, have been involved in an accident (even unseen damage can affect the seat's functioning), fall short of current safety standards, or have been recalled due to faulty design. Moreover, plastic gets brittle as it gets older, so a seat that's too old could break in a crash.

If you must use a secondhand seat, make sure it has the original instructions (or contact the manufacturer for a replacement copy), has all its parts (check the manual), has never been involved in a serious accident, and hasn't been recalled. (Check your seat's recall status here.)

In addition, to avoid the dangers of aging plastic, SafetyBeltSafe U.S.A. recommends sticking with car seats that are ideally less than five years old and definitely less than ten years old. You can usually find an expiration date stamped somewhere on the seat.
