Breastmilk

posted 17th Oct
So I am about 3 weeks pp and they are starting to worry about my LO weight he will start to put it back on then he will lose the OZ back like a week later   they are concerned that I have not and am not producing enough milk for him and they want me to supplement with formula (i dont have an issue with that at all) but I really want to only have him on breastmilk I currently have been lent a hospital grade pump infact its the same on the hospital has to pump my LO wont latch on most of the time to I pump and bottle feed him the milk anyway I only get 1oz to 3oz more often its usually 2oz how did or how do you mommies get ure supply to increase? I really dont want to give up on the breast feeding or feeding him breast milk but I also dont want him losing anymore weight and getting super ill from it. I am really starting to want to give up because the only person who is supporting me is my DH everyone else has basicly told me to just give up and switch to formula only. Please help!!! Thanks so much!!!

Breastfed babies fluctuate a lot, and it is not good to weigh them often unless you have real concern. Just keep doing what your doing, and ditch the scale.

Some woman can't just pump and keep a good supply. Pumping also isn't a great way to drain your milk. Keep trying to put your LO on your breast.

I used motherlove more milk special blend when I was trying to re lectate and it works well. Also if you're giving formula look into a supplemental nursing system so you can practice his latch and have him on the breast while insuring he's getting food. Have you had an LC work on his latch with you?

I took fenugreek and blessed thistle. Also make sure you are drinking a lot of water.

Also, latch LO as much as you possible can before each feeding. Breastmilk is supply and demand, and a pump doesn't draw milk out well.

look into a bf baby growth chart. Do not go by the regular dr one that is supposed to apply to all children.

Also are u nursing at all or exclusively Pumping? If u are nursing pump first and get the watery foremilk out then feed him. This will give him more fatty hindmilk.

I had to use a nipple shield for a few weeks with my daughter. Her latch was so-so.
nothing works like a baby. to up your milk try mother's milk tea ( has all the herbs in it) and/or fenugreek pills, old fashioned oatmeal ( not instant), drink tons of water!

When he will latch with or with out a sheild I feed via breast but mainly he gets pumped milk and its not me weighing him its our crazy ass wic office. I do have a LC coming out in the morning to help we had a little help while we where in the hospital but he happended to come on a VERY busy weekend and she was running crazy on the 4th floor trying to help all of us and one of the days she was not there so she only got to spend a total of 15 min at the very most with me and LO she ended up giving me pumping supplies and wanted me to pump until my milk came in and then when he was almost a week old he had is 1st WC with is pedei and he wanted/wants me to pump until I have a larger supply than what I have just really not wanting to give up but the more weight he loses the more I just want to switch to formula. Just being pulled in so many directions by so many people its frustrating and so stressful I am just looking for advice from momma who have/had the same issues.
