Autism & Flu shot ?

I want to get my 7 month old the flu shot but scared of the "flu shot causes autism" theory... What do you moms think ?! Please give me advice

SO step mom was talking about this. She said her nephew got autism because he got the flu shot full of preservatives. I am not sure if she is correct so I'll be watching what other mamas say.

I've never heard that about the flu shot. But, do your own research. Start with the CdC

I really don't think it has anything to do with autism. My son got flu shots every year (he's 4 now) because he had asthma and he was perfectly fine. Whereas, my daughter never once got a flu shot and she's autistic.

I personally wouldn't give a 7 month old a flu shot anyway though.

There's no solid evidence showing that the flu shot attributes to autism.
There's soooo many things that people say cause autism now a days... All the way down to ultra sounds...

If you are going to worry about vaccines educate your self on real side effects and ingredients. I feel like the autism thing does a great job to discredit the legitimate reasons to question vaccines. Any medicine is going to have risks and side effects, before you give your kid or take medicine your self its your job to learn about them and decide if the benefit outweighs the risk.

The baby's doctor is recommending to get it and im scared b.c of all the sayings that they say about it so im very iffy about it.

And personally we don't do the flu shot for two reasons.

#1 a new vaccine comes out each year because the flu strands change, I don't think that is enough time to properly test a vaccine.
#2 the flu shot is one of the only vaccines that uses thimerosal as a preservative and this contains mercury. Not worth it for the flu for us.

just because they reccomend it doesnt mean you have to say yes. just say no, easy as that.. they cant push it onto you

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I'm a preschool teacher and next to that one is the sunscreen causes cancer and kills kids. HA!

DD just got her flu shot on Monday, she's 9 months old.
Ask for the preservative free vaccine if you're worried about autism, that's what people claim causes autism in vaccines.

Babies get preservative free anyway I think.
But you can double check to be safe.

Don't just go by what your doctor says. Not that all medications/vaccines are bad but some doctors do tend to overdo it.

The only reason I got it for my son was because with asthma if he got the flu it'd amplify it like crazy. Otherwise I really don't see it being necessary. There are tons of strains of the flu and the vaccine doesn't target all of them. Just use normal flu-season health precautions.

But again, really do your own research and decide whether you think it's best for your LO or not.

As far as autism

I know but I just don't want him to end up with something worse then the flu & autism runs in my son's father's family .. so idk I don't think I am going to get it though

FWIW my daughter was diagnosed autistic way before she ever got a flu shot. She was always different though, from birth. Based on that I've come to the conclusion that she was born that way.

you are hilarious, because it was found out a few years ago that many sunscreens contain ingredients that DO accelerate cancer growth. Maybe since you are such an authority on medicine, being a preschool teacher and all you should educate yourself.
