Quoting Mama Massa:" Wow, I had no idea. I feel like no one informed us of what our preemies are at a greater risk for. I ... [snip!] ... yet. The pulmonologist said they were going to check with my insurance then give me a call back to schedule an appointment."
First of all, you can always send me a PM if you want. I had a 27 weeker (she's almost 3 now) so I went through a lot of this stuff. I know how scary and confusing it can all be, and I was only handling one kid, now two!
Yes, it's a monthly shot. So it isn't a one time thing. They do a shot every month usually from Oct or so until April or so. They never made my daughter sick or feel bad (well, I mean, any shot will hurt, but no fevers or anything). RSV is VERY VERY scary. It's much more dangerous then the flu. In fact, more kids are hospitalized and dye from RSV every year than from the flu if I recall correctly. It's even more dangerous for kids with lung issues.
My daughter spent a lot of time on a vent, so her lungs were damaged. She came home on o2. Also she had a PDA ligation surgery (on her heart) so that's why she qualified for so long.
