How did you prepare?

I didn't prepare at all and I actually hadn't ran since highschool either. I jogged it in 43 min. But I was proud of myself for finishing.

I'd say just start going for timed runs. 20-30 min 5x a week, and try to run farther like every 30 min run ya know? If you're just doing laps, try to do one or two extra laps within the half hour than you did the week before.
Also make sure you stay really hydrated and eat more carbs!

Another secret is try not to ever stop! If you stop and then try to start again, it causes cramps. My first 2 5ks I had to stop and walk a few times, but that's because I wasn't prepared. So even if you have to slow way down to almost walking thats fine just keep moving
