overnight shifts

posted 26th May
Any Moms out there work overnights? How is it? How do you manage to get enough sleep?I'm going to get my CNA and try to work over nights at the hospital for a few different reasons. I'm just trying to figure out if I can do it or not. I would work like 2 nighs and 2 days, plus try and squeeze in some schooling and of course take care of Hunter.

I don't work now, but I used to be a bartender when my son was a few months old, and I worked from 7 PM-2 AM or so. It was really hard, since he didn't nap often. I eventually just got used to sleeping for about an hour per day during the week and then sleeping all day on Sunday when his dad was home. It was rough, but it allowed me to spend all day with my son.

I used to work overnights but after last night I WILL never work one again. I have not been getting enough sleep and my boss is a real ass. I came in at ten and she wouldn't let me go on lunch until 2:30 and then break at 6. I got off at seven so that did me no good. But since you will be at a hospital it should be better. And they aren't like my boss who does not understand pregnancy. Also, for me it was difficult b/c before I started working this shift, I was sleep deprived so my sleep pattern has gotten even worse. But best of luck to you.

I was thinking of working Friday nights because my fiance's mom offered to watch Hunter during the day so I could sleep before work and then Sunday Night so my mom could do the same thing and probably just 1 day like a Wednesday Day

I am working two jobs right now . . . one of them is overnights at Chevron for some extra cash.

It is really hard a first but if you keep yourself busy then its not too bad. Just make sure you eat healthy and drink plenty of water. Try not to drink too much caffeine because your body will become dependant on it and you will start to feel like crap if you don't have it in your system.

Oh and if you absolutely HAVE to take some sort of energy booster because you know you wont stay awake if you don't (yes there will be nights like that especially when you have a baby) the 5-hour energy shot really works. That or the Redline energy drink. Moster, Rockstar, Redbull and all those other energy drinks are really just for flavor and don't do much of anything.

I am always up before I go to work at night because I am either at my other job or I am at home getting ready, but when I first started I would try and sleep right before I went to work and it SUCKED because I was so groggy and tired and it made my whole night drag. So now if I don't have to work my other job before I work a graveyard shift I always am up at least 2 hours before my shift so I don't feel like crap.

Hope that helps! And good luck!
