potentially being sick and BF *TMI warning*

posted 16th Oct
So again ill just give a warning of TMI before i start. apologies

So i finally went #2 after about 5-6 days since the last one. Anyways before i even had to go i felt totally fine. I was sitting on the couch holding my DS and then all of a sudden the feeling hit me that I needed to be on a toilet NOW. So i quickly had my husband take our son and ran to the bathroom. After a few minutes of still feeling overly sick and nothing happening, my tummy rolled again and finally did its thing. It wasnt runny and it felt like just a normal bm. So once all was said and done i went to flush and noticed that it looked weirder then hell! this is where it gets gross so again, apologies. You know how when you buy a roast and there are strings wrapped around it? well thats what some of it looked like. Except it was a thicker looking fiberish string? it didnt look like a parasite of any kind. Then there were other bits that were discolored and almost whitish. So needless to say that got me all worried and freaked right out. Now here is where my questions come.
1) has anyone had this happen to them? Today all I really ate was turkey noodle soup and a grilled cheese sandwhich. I havent been overly hungry since giving birth.
2) My DS seemed like he had an upset tummy today and his poops were quite runny and gross.. I BF and he only rarely will get a bottle of formula. Could he have gotten his upset tummy from me from me BF him? even before I got sick to my stomach?
3) if i am sick, can my son get sick from me BF him? im a first time mom and i should know these things but i dont

if anyone has any ideas and answers to any of my questions that would be great. Oh, i dont know if this will be relevant at all but im only 2 weeks PP. And again, sorry for the topic of this. Its quite embarrassing actually.

After I gave birth to my daughter I didn't poop for a WHOLE week! When I did it hurt soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad!! this might be TMI but I felt like I needed an Epi more for the poop then for my daughter! Then again it took another week to poop again same results! My point being I think some of our bodies just react differently to giving birth. I don't think it has any effect on your breast milk. I feed my daughter even with my bowel problems and she was fine.=)

It's fine to nurse when sick (flu, tummy bug, etc). Baby is actually getting your antibodies from the milk (making him MORE healthy and helping him fight it off).

Breastfed baby poo is almost always an orange liquid mess. Just keep him hydrated wih lots of boob juice.

As for your bowel issues? I'd call your doc if it continues!

Not sure about your poop but you since you're BF you need to eat more than soup and a grilled sandwich for a whole day. Remember you're still nourishing baby just like you did when you were pregnant so try to just snack a little through out the day.You need to consume atleast 1800 calories a day. With you breastfeeding you're going to help prevent your LO from getting sick because of all the antibodies in your milk.

Oh and don't be embarrassed, I've asked and read worse than this

The strings are just protein and totally fine.

Your body is just probably trying to clean itself out after having the constipation. I believe I was the same way after I had LO. You should be back to normal. Just continue with fluids and you are totally fine to BF.
