re: Will you teach your child to fight back?

posted 17th Oct
Here is a situation to think about... My first grader got off the school bus one day furious! He said that a boy (2 or 3rd grade he thinks) hit him for the second time when the boy walked passed him to get off the bus. Apparently this kid was punching every child on the isle as he passed them. The bus driver was made aware the first time, threatened punishment, but did nothing the second time so my son asked if he could hit him back. I said yes, but be prepared that he may hit again. The next day the boy punched the kids behind my son and then my son again as he passed. My son stood up and hit him with all he had in the back as he walked by. The boy turned to him and started crying. the bus driver did nothing, and to this day that boy hasn't hit another person. The actions of my son stopped the bulling of the other kids on that bus. Sometimes hitting back is necessary.

I was taught never to hit first as a kid, but if I had to fight, I knew how to win. My kids will know how to defend themselves.

My kids will defend themselves if necessary.

My daughter was hit by a 5 year old when she was 3 and she swung back and dotted his eye. She told him "don't start nothing, won't BE nothing!" lol. Gotta love MIB.

Or YOU could have gone to the bus driver or the principal and got it taken care of without risking your kid getting his ass kicked.

Yes I could have but my son wanted to handle it himself and I was willing to give him the opportunity to defend himself. I won't always be there to defend him, so this is a lesson he wanted and needed to learn. He has an older brother and is a rough and tough little boy. He didn't want his Mommy making a big deal about it when it wasn't necessary. He wanted to handle it himself...and he did.

Yes I sure will teach my child to fight back.

I know fighting does NOT solve everything, but I will not have my child bullied. If someone hits him, he better damn sure hit that child back. You treat others how you want to be treated in my opinion. You hit and belittle someone, then maybe it needs to be done to you to see its not so nice! Maybe that bully needs to be knocked on his ass and he will leave other children alone. I do NOT condone my child hitting someone 1st or bullying other children!! I do expect him to stand up for himself and if that means hitting that child back, then by all means knock him out and I will PROUDLY defend him.

I will teach my kids to fight back when necessary. I will never encorage my children to be someone's punching bag and just take it because an adult isn't near by or doesn't care to stop it. I do not mean that they will not get in trouble for starting a fight, but if the only way out of a situation is to fight (if they were hit first of course) then I will tell them to do that.
