  This.

If she told her teachers and they didn't do anything, then I would probably go speak with the principal, but if it kept happening hell yeah I would tell her to kick some butt. And she is a big girl, she could do it no problem.

If my child got hit first, I would expect my child to punch that person square in the nose.
If my child started the fight, then my child has major issues when they get home.

I guess I'm the odd ball. The only thing that will stop a bully from picking on you is to give them a nice big taste of their own medicine. I'll always teach my daughter's never to hit someone first and not to pick on people but if someone hit my child, YES, she has my blessing to kick their ass. That will teach the little bullies.

At first I was against it but my SO thinks it's very important for them to stick up for themselves and others. The systems they have in place now are not working, children are killing themselves because of bullies.. not my girl, she can fight back if she feels she needs to.

I am going to put my son it tae kon do (sp?) for self defence and also to teach disipline. He is going to know to not take anyone's smurf but to never hit someone.

Did you know if your kid hits back, even in self-defense, they get the same punishment as the instigator?

OT- but I think that is pretty smurfed up.

This. If my kid gets hit, I wouldn't punish him for hitting back, even though he'd get the same punishment as the kid that started it from the school.

I won't teach him how to fight back, but I will be putting him in some sort of class ((I suck at fighting.))

Even if I don't want him to hit, if he is anything like I was, he will be involved in children trying to fight him and/or pick on him...a teacher won't always be around when that person is staring at him in the face about to swing and I don't want those kids picking on him more just because he "lets" them pick on him..

That's why I'd rather my child talk to someone first. If it does come to fighting back and my daughter gets suspended for standing up for herself then we'll be spending her suspension having fun.

Yes.
Growing up...I never got in fights, but this one girl used to pick on me in 5th grade. My dad said "Punch her in the nose. Break her a nose. You can have a party while you are suspended from school". I never took him up on the offer. she didnt hit me, but just ran her mouth.
My sister...on the other hand....grabbed a girl by the head and slammed her head into the lockers and threw her papers all over the hallway. She was in trouble during suspension. dad was pretty mad.

Depending on where you are from. There were no shortage of smurf starters in my school. It never ended with one fight.
