some tubal questions

can you be denied a tubal ligation because you had a traumatic birthing experience?

can you get one done and continue breastfeeding?

what is the recovery like?

and do you know of anyone who had a particularly negative experience with having a tubal ligation?

lastly,
if you got it done, did you ever regret it?

1 i do not think so but it can be denied if the doc does not feel you are ready a lot of doctors dont like to do them before 25 and 3 kids.

2 yes but the may tell u to pump and dump after being put to sleep but i was allowed to breast feed as soon as i woke up from an emergency OR trip after i deliver the baby.

4 i did not have mine done but was thinking about it my doctor would have done it because being pregnant can kill me.

ll be getting mine done after this baby and Im scared. The only thing Im scared about is you can still get pregnant and if you do the baby could make your tubes burst if you dont get checked out when you find out your pregnant. Yes you can continue breastfeeding how my doctor explained it to me is you know how you get an epi (if you have) well its the same thing they numb you and you wont feel anything they also give you the same pain meds from c sections... So yes you can, that was other big concern. And I dont know the other questions LOL Ive never known someone that had a bad experience or ever regretted it, my doctor said it could be reversed COULD BE is the big thing. If you maybe want kids in the future you should think more about other ways..

yah its like 20k to have it reversed tho and its not guaranteed to work, i also can not have an epi so i would have been completely put under.

Yea crazy huh! Thats what I wanted but my doctor said NO lol. I freaked out about being awake during a surgery!!! I just hope they keep the epi line in so they dont have to prick at my back again!!

What do you mean by the first one? A Dr can decide not to do it for basically any reason. If you had a really difficult birth, they can decide that it is NOT a good time for you to have a tubal done. Since it's elective, it's basically up to them if they want to do it or not.

You can breastfeed. I got mine done at 2 months PP and I breastfed for a year.

Recovery was really painful and hard for me.

I do not regret it. Some people do, but I'm about a year and a half after and I have no regrets at all.

If i would have had a c section with my Daughter or Son i would have been completely under and no one would have been able to come in...:-( but i had to go to the OR after my DD and it sucked i was out for like 5 hours and i woke up wile i was still on my way to recovery but my SO and daughter were there when i got there.

My Mom was put out for an emergency c-section for me. That was 26 years ago, lol, but I know she hated it. She didn't wake up until the next day, and she managed to get out of the bed and was walking around looking for her baby because she didn't know what happened (and was obviously out of it). She always says my birthday is one day later because that's the day she woke up and met me, haha

Lol well i got to see her but i was take to the OR not to long after and didnt wake up to till like 4 am or 5 am on the 3rd i had her on the 2nd and was out by 11 pm and to top it off i needed 2 units of blood AND they would not let me out of bed and i had to stay in the labor and delivery room for an extra day because if i needed to go back to the OR they didnt want me to far.

I talked to my family doctor today about it and told him I pretty much don't want pregnancy to be a possibility ever. I don't think that mentally I could handle another pregnancy. and on top of that, I'll be 27 and I have two children now, one of which will be special needs. my plate is full I am happy and I don't want anymore kids. he referred me to the obgyn, but said some doctors prefer a person to wait at least a year before making this permanent decision after a traumatic event.

I would have to agree. Right after a traumatic event or a huge change of any sort, that is not the best time to make forever choices. I know I wanted my tubes tied after I had my daughter (preemie) but now I'm thankful I waited to make the choice. When I was under extreme stress, plus all the hormones of being PP, was not a great time to make that choice. I would suspect a lot of Dr's might agree, that you should wait until things settle a bit to make such a big choice. Times that are not the best are after a divorce, after a loss/preemie/infant with health issues. Any of these things can make us very emotional and jump to chocies we might regret later.

So yes, a Dr can refuse to do the tubal for any reason, including age or belief that you are not making a good choice.

I had my papers to get my tubal signed when I was seven months pregnant and I had my surgery the day after my daughter was born two weeks ago. I had a rough pregnancy and a traumatic birth. If my ob told me no after what they saw me go through I would be finding a new ob. I don't think anyone should be told they can not decide when their family is complete. I don't want to chance another child either and my ob understood that. The ob who did my tubes cut a section of tube out tied then burned the ends of my tubes. They don't take chances from what she said and I hope it works. I was put to sleep because I didn't have an epi for delivery and didn't want to be awake for it. I breastfed my daughter as soon as I woke up. The surgery was very quick and iv medicine is awesome. I was only in pain four days and still have a lot of my pain medicines left.
