Passing on the gene

posted 15th Oct
I posted a while back about this but not in this category.
Wonder if anyone experienced this at all. SOs mom did drugs and drunk through her whole pregnancy. He ended up with club or cleft foot, cerebral palsy, adhd, add, deaf in one ear, and some more i cant remember right now. Could the more severe ones become hereditary and transfer to our kids if we have kids?. Any experiences or knowledge of this?. I will be asking my doctor when i do go in the next time.

Does anyone else in his family have the same issues? I know deafness can be heredity. I would say in your SO's case, those were all probably causes from chronic drug and alcohol use.

No I don't think so I work with special needs many of these
Parents have other kids without any of these health problems I even know a friend of my sister whose friend has a child with club foot and missing part of his arm she has other kids that are perfectly fine. Oh the other kids also have kids that are perfectly healthy. I would just look into genetic testing if you are really concerned. Does he have any siblings? If so do they have any issues?

you don't know that. two women can both drink and use lots of drugs during their pregnancies, one has a totally healthy baby, the other a really sick one.
every single one of those conditions might be genetic, or it might not.

OP, we take a chance regardless. I'd talk to the genetic counselor if I were you, sure, but there are no guarantees
some of the healthiest people have sleeper genetic defects they pass on to their children

Really?
So it's more likely his parents passed on a half dozen "sleeper" defects, versus his mother abusing drugs & alcohol throughout her pregnancy?
Okay.

Yes he does but only from his biological dad and they are fine. He ended up with these things because of his moms drinking and drugs while pregnant.

But nature has flukes our first child had trisomy 18 there was no heredity in our families sometimes things happen and were you told this is why he has all of these issues not that it was proven medically? Your dr would probably recommend genetic counciling that's how we found out about our baby and that it was just a flke

It was proven when he was younger that because of what his mother did while she was pregnant he had those things.

Because no one else in his family has any of those conditions except the adhd and add. The doctors told his adoptive mom that because of the drugs meaning cocaine and drinking that is why he was born with all the defects. His dads other children are fine and his mom all we know is she is in jail for drugs.
