Implanon... so nervous!

Im 3 1/2 weeks PP and have my initial consult with my DR today to discuss getting the implanon later this week..

I know this sounds ridiculous because I've given birth twice, had 1 episiotomy & 2 epidurals...

BUT..

Im actually a nervous wreck & really scared of having it inserted and removed in the future.... terrified if I'm honest.

I was never scared of giving birth etc because i had the comfort of knowing my body was made/designed to do that.. with this its just so freaky.

If you've had it, how was your insertion/removal and experience?
I want to hear the good, bad & ugly haha!  

Don't do it. This is the worst birth control experience of my life. I'm planning on getting mine removed within the next few weeks and getting something else.

I had it. Insertion was a piece of cake, removal was a little harder. Nothing was as hard as being on that birth control, I hated it.

I've been talking about getting mine removed for over a year, but I keep convincing myself I'll get better. I keep getting worse. I can't take this smurf anymore.

What are you on now? I'm thinking paraguard if PP will do it for me.

I'm on the pill. I couldn't get paragard because I have anemia but PP does them, at least here in IL they do.

I was the same way, I even went to get mine removed and got estrogen cream instead because they said it would help with the random bleeding and it didn't help at all. I had the implanon for almost 2 years, I never got pregnant but it was an awful experience on birth control.

I had a so-so experience with Implanon.
Pros: Periods went away. (There was very light spotting occasionally, but nothing major.) It's super effective. You don't have to remember to take it.
Cons: I gained at least ten pounds. My sex drive dropped pretty dramatically. I got pretty frequent headaches. I ended up with a very large ovarian cyst that ruptured, BUT the doctor's aren't sure if the Implanon caused it. They said it was possible, but they weren't certain.
Overall- I wouldn't do it again.


To answer your actual question, though:
Insertion: Piece of cake. There was an itty bitty prick to numb the area. After that, I felt absolutely nothing.
Removal: Well, that was a bit trickier. I had some scar tissue form pretty tightly around it, so the doctor had to cut around that. I have a less than awesome scar there now. Once again, I didn't feel anything.

I hated mine. Its probably what made it hard for me to get pregnant after having it taken out. Also I've seen commercials about it causing infertility, but who knows if that was right or not

Paragard has been awesome for me, give your body some,time to regulate it's cycles before you decide you hate it, my first few periods were like crime scenes.
OP I have heard the insertion is better than the removal and re insertion if you so chose. I have friends and my sister on it and most hate the side effects but love.not having to take a pill or have something sit in their uterus.

I'm anemic.   Why can't we have it paragard??

I always bleed. It's so bad. I'll bleed for like a month straight, then start my period like nothing happened. I'm late right now. I spotted for a day last week and now nothing. I'm breaking out so bad.

What I hate the most is that it's impossible for me to lose weight. I eat so healthy and exercise like crazy and nothing happens. Plus, I'm crazy.

I used to have it (had it removed because I hated it.)
Having it put in and taken out really wasn't bad at all. Couldn't even feel it. I could feel the shot with anesthetic for like a second which really didn't hurt much more than a pinch. Just take a bunch of ibuprophen before you go.

It's not recommended for anemic women because it makes periods heavier. They told me at PP they wouldn't put it in because of my anemia.

Well crap....

I asked for the truth and i got it hahaha ... now I'm freaking out even more!  

This is my 'last resort', the DR's have said this is the only thing left for me to try & then they'll consider tying my tubes/essure or DH and i will discuss vasectomy again.

I've been on these so far and fell pregnant on all.. all taken/used correctly.

Combined pill - almost had a stroke so can't take that ever again.
Mini pill - mega acne (same hormone as the implanon which is making me weary)
Copper IUD - became anaemic

My plan is to get the implanon, keep using condoms & VCF and then later on (in a few months) will get another copper IUD 'just incase'.

I really don't want to be pregnant again..

At least if i try this the DR's have no excuse not to go ahead with the tubal etc, all of them have suggested the implanon.. i suppose in the hope that it'll work for me?

I had mine put in last week. Was super fast and painless. However Im kinda scared now because of all the posts Ive been seeing about how much eveyone hates it!
