Induction or C-Section? *Not an option for complete natural*

posted 15th Oct
Due to a ginormous baby my first pregnancy and wanting to avoid it this time around my doctor is insisting on an induction a week before my due date, or a c-section. We scheduled a c-section just to get the time slot, I can change my mind and have an induction even though my Doctor is against it due to 3rd degree lacerations and tearing my daughter caused. He does not want to reopen those tears since they were to my bladder and I still have trouble 2 years later. Even though my daughter's labor, delivery, and recovery time was longer cause of the complications it seems to still be less than a c-section. Wanting some opinions from moms that have had both, what do you prefer? How long was your recovery time for each??

How did a 3rd degree laceration go to your bladder?

My Son tore me up inside and out and fractured my tail bone but I'm going natural this time around too. In fact, my Dr hasn't even declined me doing so...

Just because your first baby was big doesn't mean this one will be.
My Mom had me 6lbs, my sister 6lbs, and my giant brother 10 lbs.

Cylus was almost 8 lbs and A turned out at 7lbs 1 oz and just slid out. Literally just slid.

Tearing has really nothing to do with size. It has way more to do with birth position. With my VBAC this time I had a 9lb baby. And I did tear, pretty bad. But it was WAY better than my c-section recovery. One is slicing through your muscles, and one is stitches in a tear. As far as inductions go, it wouldn't be worth the possible side effects for me to have one just to avoid a tear. But Everyone is different.

She came out 9 Pounds 11 Ounces, I'm measuring 3 weeks ahead with this baby and will be getting a size estimate the week before the scheduled C-Section-which is the 13th. I'm not sure how I tore, I tore up instead of down and they didn't give me an episiotomy so it just split everything up coming out. I had about 60 stitches before my doctor stopped counting. I had tearing and lacerations everywhere. Honestly the stitching up was worse than the labor! I didn't have bladder control for about 6 weeks after the delivery and had to take laxatives the entire time. Couldn't have sex for about 6 months from the wounds. Everyone that's pro induction recommend getting the episiotomy not letting up on pain meds and going early to not risk the size issue. I just know the pain that I went through with her and I'm hoping I can sort out which will be less for number 2. I was induced with my 1st as well but 2 weeks after the due date, which probably contributed to her size at the time, I'm not opposed to being induced I just really don't want to tear again.

How did they have you deliver her? Like position wise?

An episiotomy is worse in terms of naturally tearing because it is a deeper "superficial" cut. However, sometimes having one does help get the baby out better. It's all up to the Dr and the circumstance during delivery.

I was just in a hospital bed, they gave me an epidural after 24 hours of excruciating pitocin contractions. So I was on my back, the bed was at like a 50ish degree angle and they had my knees to my chest. Being in that position honestly felt like the pushing didn't do much, are there better alternatives??

There are a ton actually. That position is the worst position to give birth in. I am sure that is why I tore during my VBAC. I went 28 hours natural but got to 10cm and couldn't get rid of my cervical lip. I was in transition for HOURS. Honestly check out the business of being born, they explain it pretty well in that movie why its a bad position. If you have netflix its on there. The only reason dr's have you do it that way is from epidurals, and its better for dr.

BTW i was also induced with my first and got an epi, but was able to go natural for 28 hours for my VBAC and it was honestly amazing.

dude I'm so glad my doctor wasn't a sterotypical OBGYN. She made it where I wasn't even like supported by the damn bed lol She said welp let gravity do its thing before we have you start pushing.

Yeah I agree size has nothing to do with tearing, I had a 5 lb 11 ounce preemie and tore down my right side of my vagina. My mom had me at 7 lbs and I tore her from back to front cause I threw a shoulder out as I came, my sister was 10 lbs and didn't give her one stitch. I think ripping your crotch would be way better than cutting through all that muscle and skin on your abdomen. In my opinion.
