If it was a petty crime then yeah I probably would. But 5-life? Life is ... Well it should be life but it's what, 20-30 years now? If he got life, your baby would have to deal with never really having a relationship with his/her dad until he gets out.

Personally, if my SO had done something that warranted life imprisonment, he had to throw any respect he had for me and our children and so, he loses them.

IMO, depends on the crime and what positive aspects he can bring to your child's life.

My son was already 2 years old and his father was very much involved in his life. It killed him to be away. We kept contact morning, noon and night by phone because we felt as a family that it was the best thing to do despite being told that "jail is no place for a child" and "he will be scarred for life."

hes been to court but its going through the process and everything so ill say a couple more months

My daughter's father is in and out of jail. I put forward no effort to involve him in her life.
