Yeah, it's for me, and it's going to be a little harder for me to get approved because it's not technically something I was born with. I just gave the worst case scenario, really.

if you want to get approved the first time around ALWAYS have a medical professional fill out explanations and sign w/their MD title or at the very least have them fill out a medical condition statement with the treatments listed that you are receiving from them. That way they cant deny what is being told to them in the application....Like I said Being deaf runs in our family so we do the process regularly. My son has a speech issue but his biological father has your issue and gets full disability..due to that my son gets it too as child support, since he can't work to pay it and all i did was the application process.

I've done that already, but like I said, I'm young and these aren't conditions that usually lead to disability. I have a psychiatrist, a therapist, a rheumatologist, and a neurologist on top of my PCP.

wow...I hope it works out for you. I didn't know they they put some people through the ringer like that. You are the first person i know who is going through a delay.

Most people I know with mental health issues have had a rough time with it. I know people that have taken 2 years to get it. I really don't WANT disability, I would rather work in a heart beat, but I'm out of options now.

My son's father gets it for that reason too and he got it first go around. maybe some states are harder to get approved in.

I have SSI for myself. It most likely is different for children. It took about 6 months to hear back from them. For me personally I didn't get denied the first time. I get $785 a month

My DS was approved the first time we applies. It took 4 months to hear back and nearly 5 months for our first payment.
The main point is to have her dr's names and phone numbers for the interview. SSI will collect any and all paperwork from medial providers. Don't worry about that.
Also, the SSI payment is to better her environment to help her grow and learn and meet her goals. So it can be used for things like gas, food, clothes, shoes, toys, diapers, cups, etc. I was told no beer, cigs, alcohol, gambling. Sad they have to add that on there really.

I really don't feel like posting a new topic with this question so I will ask here. Would getting a new car with her SSI be justifiable? Not like a brand new 2012 kind of a car, maybe like a $2,500 at the most kind of car, because the car we have (1995 Nissan Altima) is in horrible shape (actually just posted a topic about it a few days ago about how it smurf out on us and wouldn't even start), and we are constantly having to make repairs on it and we obviously use our car a lot for our daughter, and most likely will use our car a lot to get Ness to her appointments and physical therapy and such. So would getting a newer better running car than what we have and selling the one we have be a justifiable way to use that money, or no? I wanted to ask here before anywhere else. Lol.

If its going to better her and be used for things like taking her to and from, doctor appointments, therapies, learning centers...things like that I think you're completely justified in wanting to get a better car.

Yes as long as it is for caring for her and maintaining her lifestyle it should be okay. The only time they really get pissed off is if the child's basic need are not met. As in, your child looks "trowed away homeless" but you look like a million bucks. All that money is to help you care and provide for her... that includes bills and transportation. Just dont blow it on junk and you should be fine.

Yes. We just my sons to get new brakes on our minivan. The back payment can be used to buy big ticket items also for the house like a t.v., computer, furniture. It really is to be used to better their living environment and meet their needs. You will get a packet with lots of information.

Yep, we're outside the income guidelines because we live off base.
