Jumpstarting weightloss:Liquid diet?

posted 15th Oct
Okay some of you know that since I had DS almost 4 months ago, I have been struggling terribly with losing weight. I was losing good till after I started the pill and gained some lbs. I am 230 lbs, and I am 5'2 so yeah I am in the obese catergory.

I was thinking on maybe doing a liquid diet, ONLY as a jumpstart. and I KNOW, I KNOW I must consult my doctor FIRST and I will if I decide that, that's what I am gonna do.

I am just wondering has anyone ever done this? Or is this just something that is used for like before surgeries , etc.? If so, please share your story/info/advice/ anything you can tell me. Thanks.

I just switched from soda/tea to water, and I dropped about 10 pounds in a month. Try that.

Actually, I am not a big consumer of soda, its the breads/carbs that is my weakness. But that's awesome.....congrats on the 10 lbs. I wish soda was my only problem.

My dad has been told to lose weight as well bc he's getting diabetes - he's been overweight (beer belly) for quite sometime but now that his health is at risk he's finally decided to change his diet and without even working out he's noticing his pants are much looser. He's cut down on milk (he used to drink a lot everyday - fatty and has sugar), he cut down on potato chips, baked potatoes, fries - starch, he's cut out the chocolate and pretty much anything sweet and sugary. I have a major sweet tooth so that is my biggest weakness. Cut out boxed products - usually is filled with sodium (lots of water weight)... he used to do the "cabbage" diet - eat cabbage soup for all his meals for like a week (ewww so gross) but i think juicing is also a good idea to get all your fruits and veggies or smoothies - i love spinach smoothies - pretty much make as you want, add greek yogurt, frozen bananas and/or berries, Almond milk, and a dab of peanut butter. Too much water can flush out your nutrients and put on water weight if you aren't getting enough nutrients. If you like regular black coffee that is a natural laxative and is good for you too (just heard of studies linking coffee to prevent diseases/cancers). I drink coffee religiously - but i do add flavored creamer (another weakness of mine). Try to cut out juice (sugars) - i like adding those crystal light packets to bottled water - no sugar and like 5 calories each; much better than juice/soda/milk.
Good luck OP!

I would not do this. It can cause your bodies metabolism to screw all up. Also, if you DO drop a lot, yuo can easily become upset and unmotivated when that fast weight loss doesn't continue.

I'd stick with basic eating well and exercise, which will give you up to 2lbs a week weight loss. It may not seem like much, but it's you best chance at keeping it off.

Bread and pasta are totally my weaknesses too! You could try switching to whole wheat grain instead for pasta and whole wheat bread?

I had a problem with that too. I limited my carbs to 20 a day (it sucks, just basically meat.) then after 2 weeks, I allow about 50.. there are days I go over, but I am pretty comfortable with where I am at, and I don't feel like I am sacrificing too many of my favorite foods.
Works for me.
I'm down 35 pounds, in less than 3 months. Along with running, (Couch to 5k), and a little bit of 30 Day Shred (which you can find on YouTube).

Sounds like the Atkins diet. Which I did 2 yrs ago and lost 32 lbs in 3 1/2 months. Its what I have been trying to do now.....but I am just failing at it this time. I really need to change my mindset and think positive.

Does it? I've heard of the diet, but never the details.
My motivation is old pics of me... and before I had old pics, I made a board on Pinterest for it.

I know and you are right. I would have consulted my docotor first and ONLY do it as a jumpstart(like maybe a week or 2), not something I would do for a long while. But Idk, I just wanted a good jumpstart, I know loseing the 2 lbs a week is whats best and healthier but its just so discouraging.

I may re try Atkins, its a low carb diet and carbs are a B**** to my body. I really did enjoy Atkins, when I did it before and lost 32 lbs in 3 1/2 months, so I didn't lost the lbs too fast but for some reason I am just not doing to well this time.

What to know something depressign? lol. I've read (on the atkins website) that sadly if you've done really great on Atkins before, you may not be able to again. That something about our bodies can really take to it the first time, then we'll struggle with it later. I know, I did atkins once and did well on it. I switched to weight watchers (Did better on that). When I tried to do atkins again a few times later, it never worked well. Weight watchers however I WONDERFUL.

I'm about 20lbs down. It's coming off slow, but ever lb is a success and I'm doing it a healthy way that I can continue to do. I don't ever feel like I'm hungry. I am learning how to eat for the rest of my life so I don't gain it back, and I love that.

lol, no hunnie don't feel dumb. When it comes to other stuff/topics/subjects... I am just as uninformed and clueless.

My friend Cheli, was doing low carb too and told me all she was doing so I was like, oh you're doing Atkins and she's like ''huh?'' lol....I'm like yeah, the name for that is Atkins. She only knew it as just cutting carbs...she's like ''dang I didn't know they had a name for it" lol
