Scared of having a big baby!

posted 15th Oct
I am 37 weeks today and I am measuring 35cm, which my midwife said is perfect. She also said that I have quite a lot Fluid so my baby is a bit smaller. Im just worried that if she is overdue by like 2 weeks then she will be about 9/10lb. My bump isn't enormous or anything but I am just worried. So does anyone know the average weight for an overdue baby?

I'm sure the average is around 7-9lbs. I went over due with 2 out of my 3 kids and they were all 9lbs + but then again I just make big babies.

My little boy was 7lbs 11 1/2oz, born at 41 weeks. My niece was 8lbs 8oz at 42 weeks so guess its different. I was measuring 36cm at 41 weeks? X

I was told the average weight these days is 8-9 lbs.

I went exactly one week over due and DD was 8 lb 11oz.

There aren't such things as a baby that's too big. Our bodies are made to push babies out.

Not trying to argue at all so I hope you don't take this the wrong way. :/

I was curious though- I always hear and see people talking about this, how there is no such thing and how our bodies are made to do that...I agree that yes, obviously we are made to push out babies.....but babies DO get completely stuck even after trying to deliver in multiple positions and literally trying everything to push the baby out...then it still doesn't work and they have to get emergency c-sections...so why do people say there's no such thing and that your body can push out any size baby...?

I agree; my daughter got stuck at the shoulder and needed to be pulled out (no time for forceps or a section) and I was told by a midwife that 'women grow babies that they can give birth to'. Maybe true for most but they certainly can and do get stuck in some of us.

I agree!!!! I got stuck in my moms birth canal and was 9.5... my daughter did not even progress down into mine because she was too big. 9.14. My OB said that is probably why I had prodromal labor for 4 weeks at 4cm.. she was just too big and my body knew it.

thats what happened with my mom when she was birthing me. Shulder got stuck, they tried rotating me and diff positions ect... Ended up having to break my collar bone to get me out. my chest was 14.5 in and she ended up with 3rd degree tears

I dont think when you have them has anything to do with it. I had mine 39w 5d and she was 9 pound, my friend had hers 41w 2d and he was 7 pound something

I am 37 weeks this Friday and when I went to my last doctor visit they did an ultrasound and she was measuring 6lb 7oz and 37 weeks. I have gestational diabetes and this being my 1st baby I am terrified to have a huge baby. I've been doing a lot of walking and taking primrose oil capsules at night for a few days now... Am I wrong for trying to."speed up" the process my original due date is Nov 11th but by measurements now its saying Oct 29th and I have another ultrasound this Thursday as well

My first was born one week early because they said I was measuring large and thought him to be over 9lbs and being that I was small and he was my first they induced me early and he weighted 7lbs 15oz. My second was born at 41 weeks weighting 9lbs 4 oz but they had estimated him to be around 6 or 7 lbs. And with my third I was induced twice. Once at 40 weeks and once at 41+ weeks. The first induction failed and after 24 hours they sent me home. When I finally did have him he weighed 10lbs 8 oz and he was by far my easiest delivery. Women can have big babies and be totally fine. Jackson was a little sideshow at the hospital, everyone wanted to see the 10lb baby but to me he didn't look big at all and I certainly didn't feel like I had just had a 10lb baby.

And, I NEVER trust US's when they estimate weight. My first should have been over 9lbs, second should have been around 6-7, and my third was measured after my failed induction and they said he weighted around 8lbs 2 oz. Clearly wrong for all of my boys.

Good luck to you hun!!

ETA: I had all my boys natural. No c-sections.
