Wedding Dances

posted 14th Oct
DH and I got married at the courthouse, so we have been talking about doing a nice ceremony for our 5th anniversary. I need some advice about the dances, though. My dad died a few months ago, and I don't have a step-father. I'm not sure what to do about the father-daughter dance. As of now, DH and I agreed to just do the bride-groom dance. Would it be weird to have my brother stand in his place? Or one of my uncles? Any other possible suggestions?

You could skip the father/ daughter type of dance all together. You are basically doing an anniversary/ recommitment event. They are typically less formal. Not like a backyard BBQ in a building but, there aren't really "rules" that you have to follow. You could just skip that part of the event all together. Make it all about you and your husbands recommital. You aren't being given away so I don't see where that type of dance is necessary. IF you want one, I would pick the person that you rely on most.

Sorry for the loss of your father.

Yes. I didn't even think about that.

Thank you. As of now, we are going to just skip the other dances, but we wanted to make it look as much like an actual wedding as possible. Most of our family and friends couldn't make the courthouse wedding because it was fairly last minute. We had been planning a real wedding, but had to cancel it because of things going on with my family. We wanted to do the ceremony to celebrate with the ones that couldn't make it the first time, and make it similar to the one we originally wanted.

Your Brother would be a good stand in or one of your Uncles.
