I had an epidural with my first, but it didnt work.

With my second I went natural, but it happened so fast I had no other option anyways.

I would say just to go with the flow. Giving birth is unpredictable, and it is good to keep an open mind, imo.

Japanese medicine, duh

Seriously though, I've had two epidurals, one which semi paralyzed me for 2 weeks. My last baby I had at home, no meds. Best experience ever.

You don't understand how having a needle/catheter inserted into your spine could potentially cause back problems for some people? Really?

The steroid injections have absolutely nothing to do with an epidural.

You obviously do not read what you sign then. In the consent forms it states that it can potentially cause back issues especially if you have pre existing conditions. OP, I had 3. Each of mine were for reasons unrelated to pain. I look at it this way. Some people can tough out a migraine without meds. Some cannot. Same thing, IMO. However, there are risks. With my first I was left with horrible back issues, I couldn't lay flat on my back for years, still can't for long periods of time. I did have nerve damage already though from an accident as a teen. Don't go in convinced you will not need pain meds, instead go in convinced you are giving birth, and the outcome will be just the same no matter what.

Sooo... let me get this straight. Because your friend has had no issues (with something different than an epidural anyway), you can't possibly comprehend how others could have issues? People don't make this smurf up. Any time you mess with the spine, you run the risk of creating other problems. That's just a fact.

I've had two births with no pain meds. If I were to ever get pregnant again, I would do it the same way. It's tough, and you have to want it, but IMO it was totally worth it. I wanted to be able to labor my way, whether standing up, on the birthing ball, in the tub, whatever. So that's what i did. With my daughter, I didn't end up in my bed until I was almost ready to start pushing, and even then it was only because my midwife told me I needed to get out of the tub. lol

You can't do it because your mom said to though. You need to do your own research about your options and decide what's best for you.
