re: epideral ?

posted 15th Oct
epidural complications aren't very common.

OP.. if you want to try without.. go for it. You can always change your mind. Just don't let yourself feel guilty.. or let others make you feel guilty if you cave and end up getting one.
as far as it making someone "high risk" .. epidural is much better than IV meds

however... do some research on breathing techniques, position changes in labor, and aromatherapy

My anesthesiologist was qualified. She wouldn't have been employed nor insured if she wasn't. But, guess what? She smurfed my smurf up really badly. I could not move for 2 weeks. I couldn't even hold my baby. Someone had to hold him up so I could even look at him. They had to latch him on so I could nurse. It was awful.

I had the epidural with both my kids & it made my labor go faster after getting so both times & I have to admit I loved it (: & I never had no problems with any side effects or anything.
But do what YOU feel comfortable doing. Your the one having the baby so you make your own birth plan. Good Luck (:

on my first child i was saying from the start i was going to try and do it with just gas and air..... came to the time he was ready to come all i was shouting was epideral!!! lol i believe an epideral is a great thing to have, there can be problems with most things but its very rear that stuff dose happen with an epideral anyway my partners sister had 8 kids and had a epideral on all of them and most of my mates have had one... i have planed for another epideral on this pregnancy too, but do what you want to do dont listen to anyone it is your body and your baby do what you think is best   xx

Epidural are effective on some people and ineffective on others. It's rather a personal choice. I had one with my first child and I most likely will have one with my second child, if the opportunity is there. I did have some complications with the epidural the first time because it caused my muscles to spasm about a month after I had my section. But with proper cream and medication, I was able to control the spasms. But like I said, its a personal choice and you should wait and see how the labor and delivery is progressing before making a rational choice as to not have any medications. Good luck with your delivery.

I had an epi. It did not work. I plan too have another child. I will go natural with it. My mom had the epi and passed out. Her blood pressure dropped massivley.

I had a natural birth, and plan on it again with #2. It hurt, a lot, I'm not going to lie. Actually pushing him out and feeling everything was amazing. My body knew what to do and my birth experience was perfect. I used a midwife and I didn't consent to an IV so I didn't have to see a needle even once. I truly believe that my body was designed to give birth and medical intervention is not necessary. It's good to be in a hospital in case you need emergency help, but try to do away with any interventions you possibly can. There are so many things that could happen when you choose an epidural. It could slow your labor and they'll end up giving you pitocin, which might put too much stress on the baby and you could end up with an emergency c-section. The risks were not worth it in my opinion. It's only one day of pain, I can handle it.

Lmao...some ppl seriously have NO COMMON SENSE...n maybe should read up on what is to be expected after an epidural...personal experience: i have had 2 n they worked pefectly fine butttt "did" have worse back problems after hving the epis...my back was messed up before hand due to me having to jump off a roof due to oir house being firebombed...but had good experiences both times and will be expecting it again 1 last time...with my 3rd and final lil girl.:^)..my advice would be to just go with the flow n if ur positive u can handle a natural birth then go for it momma...if not an epi is nothing bad!!!

ain't that the truth... I started out planning a natural home birth, and ended up in the high risk ward getting two epidurals in case of emergency csection.
plans shmans.
