Online classes

posted 14th Oct
I need to start school and my only option now seems to be online classes. I want to do something in the medical field, eventually I wanna be a RN in the pediatric ER. I don't want to do a CNA course...I don't think there is much I can do online to reach that goal. I am willing to just go for an ultrasound tech or something similar. I just really want to get in the medical field somehow.

What are the best online schools for this? TIA

Regardless of what you decided to do in the medical field, you'll still need to go out in the field to do clinicals/externship. I really wouldn't recommend online classes for anything medical. Im a medical assistant and I know I wouldn't have learned online as opposed to being in an actual classroom setting.

The only reputable schools online for medical stuff are legit colleges. Look at local universities and ask what classes they offer online. You'll have to do normal clinicals, and those obviously cannot be done online.

CNA is a great way to start out. You get experience in working with patient's.

You need in class for anything medical IMO. Plus clinicals. Look into your local community college

There are plenty of online classes for medical stuff these days. Just make sure the nursing program is acredited, and know you'll still need to do clinicals.

ultrasound tech, as far as I know, there isn't an online one anywhere. I looked into it. There might be one now... idk... but I know as of 2 years ago there wasn't. My ex husband wasn't willing to move for it.

i'm premed. my advisor told me to NOT repeat NOT take any online biology/chemistry classes even if they don't require labs. her exact words were that i will get laughed at when i apply for medschool. i go to an accredited 4 year college.

with that said, i am currently taking electives online since i am pregnant and don't feel like going to campus. as long as you're not taking anything major-related online, you're good. honestly, online classes are a joke.

online classes through a university are the same as in class. My degree doesn't specify what I took online, my employers don't know or ask when they see I have a degree from University of South Dakota. It's a well respected RN program.

I did full clinicals, but my theory classes were online.

That's what I'm going to do, I found the nearest college here offers it online.

how do you do labs online? IE biology, chemistry, etc...

i go to a university. i learned WAY more in the class room setting than i learn online.

as long as you're doing a tech program or don't plan on going past your BA then you will be fine. idk if graduate programs allow online classes on your transcript for core classes. UM's medical school doesn't, but there again that's med and not nursing.

different schools do it different ways. I did vitual lab in chemistry, where I watched videos of the actual labs being done and answered the questions. A friend did her bio lab at home... they even mailed her a cat to disect.

I would agree though.. that long term goal should be taken into consideration.

I had a lab for chem, but not biology. I plan to go for my masters, and fully expect them to make me take a bio lab. I'm ok with that. The last 5 years though, I've had a great job as an RN, so even if I have to retake a class.. well worth it.
